This week Netherfriends’ session with Daytrotter was posted. Netherfriends will be performing on June 5th at Lincoln Hall.
Mahjongg and Chandeliers
I am not sure how I missed it, but late last year the local label HBSP-2X released a split ep from two of the best dance rock band’s in the city, Mahjongg and Chandeliers. Both groups also released funky videos to go with the ep. Below is Mahjongg’s "Running On Air" and here is the link to Chandeliers’ "Sugarscoop".
Santah Record Release @ Beat Kitchen
Santah is set to release their new album White Bed Noise through their new label No Sleep Records on June 7th. Last fall, the band recorded a great session with Big Ugly Yellow Couch. Santah is performing with Pet Lions and The Names That Spell at Beat Kitchen on June 18th, and DO312 are giving away two tickets if you click a "like" button.
Interview With Chasing Mars
As we prepare to crown a new monthly poll winner, please enjoy our interview with current band of the month Chasing Mars! You can read our interview here, and stream and/or purchase their debut album here.
Squat The Condos @ Empty Bottle
Just as their romance novel album cover and straight foward title of We Should Be Together would suggest Squat The Condos write love songs. However, they are occasionally tongue-in-cheek, and always filled with raw ’60’s bubble gum pop sounds. The released their latest album back and March and are performing at Empty Bottle on May 31st (tonight!).
R.I.P Gil Scott-Heron
Rest in Peace Gil Scott-Heron, born April 1, 1949 in Chicago and died today, May 27th 2011.
Ga’an @ Empty Bottle
Ga’an is one of the heaviest psych bands in town and the Chicago-based label Captcha Records/HBSP-2X recently released their debut album on vinyl. The band is returning from a successful tour to perform at Empty Bottle on May 30th with Pillars and Tongues.
Charlie Deets “2000 Flushes”
Charlie Deets has released a new video for his track "2000 Flushes" which appears on his latest album The Power of Suggestion out now on Paribus Records.
Netherfriends “Angry East Coast”
We are entering the second phase of Netherfriends 50 States/50 Songs project. He has toured through 50 States and now is beginning to release his songs. He is currently working on the Midwest EP, but has released the East Coast collection called "Angry East Coast".
Netherfriends is performing at Lincoln Hall on June 5th.
Pillars & Tongues “The Pass and Crossings”
The new album from the somber trio Pillars and Tongues may not be ground breaking, but it does further develop the beautiful meditative sound of the band. I would say the band’s sound most closely resembles that of Dance Can Dance. Soaring strings and the near chanting vocals allow the listener to float seemlessly through this album. However it is not filler or noise, but the music sucks you into the enchanted world of Pillars and Tounges.
The Pass and Crossings is out June 28. Pre-order here. You can see Pillars and Tongues live at Empty Bottle on May 30th.
Chicago Mixtape Show @ Empty Bottle
Not only can Chicago Mixtape deliver a sound mixtape every week, but apparently they can also put together a great show. This Friday, May 27th, at Empty Bottle they will host four bands, two of which are Chicago-based Ornery Little Darlings and Continental Breakfast. The other two bands are great, but I am surprised to see Michigan’s The Juliets and Milwaukee’s The Fatty Acids. The show is going to be awesome, but I thought Chicago Mixtape would deliver a Chicago line-up. Nonetheless, the show is free if you email rsvp@emptybottle.com, and $8 if you don’t.
In preparation for the show you should check out The Juliets 2010 free album here and Continental Breakfast’s free 2010 ep Seasons here. Also, I posted this video when it was released back in Feb 2010, but Ornery Little Darlings "Run From The Gun" is a great video. Their new album, Get After It, will be released on June 1st and you can get a taste of in the new video below.
