Gemini Club recently announced a September tour to the East Coast and that they will be releasing a new mixtape each month through the end of the year. The first mixtape was released last week along side their new single "Sparklers". The track comes from their latest EP "Here We Sit" which was released back in April.
Sharkula & Jams Dean @ Subt
"Historic Event" is what it is dubbed, and who would want to something like that? Sharkula and Jams Dean together and apparently releasing an album. I am having a hard time locating details on the album, but if you are as curious as I am I would recommend stopping by Subt on August 18th to check it out.
Here is a freestyle from Sharkula that was featured on the recent mixtape from City of Win.
Save The Clocktower
Last Friday Save The Clocktower celebrated the release of their sophomore album, Through The Glass, at Double Door. The album is much more dance oriented and synth-pop driven then their 2011 debut album Carousel, but is still very enjoyable despite the sharp contrast.
If you missed their concert at Double Door you can still stream it at gigity.tv.
Pet Lions “Lightning Bolt”
Pet Lions released a new single today, August 14th, called "Lightning Bolt". It is the band’s first release since their 2011 full-length debut Houses. The track is a light summery track that can be downloaded below.
Pet Lions will be performing next at Crush In Old Town 2012 on Sept. 1.
Beak @ Empty Bottle
The four-piece metal band Beak released their latest album, Eyrie, back in April through Someoddpilot Records. I say metal but the band bends a few genre with their grinding and aggressive sound.
The band recently released a video for their track "Billions of Eyes" which was partially filmed at The Empty Bottle.
You can catch Beak at The Empty Bottle on August 16th with Arriver, Planetsexploder, Alma Negra. The show is Free with RSVP.
Psalm One’s Tour Video
Psalm One, Tanya Morgan, and The Hood Internet just wrapped a West Coast Tour and Psalm One has released a video recapping their time on the road.
Only Children “Singles”
Last week Only Children complied their recent singles into a soundcloud set and listening through it gives you an idea of just how far they have come over the last year. Not only have they release a series of great tracks, but their new label Nuclear Family is really taking off.
You can catch Only Children at the Friends of Nuclear Family Convention on August 23rd at Berlin (954 W. Belmont).
Magicks Returns
Magicks is back with a new 7" single called Reasons to Conjure Time dropping through the local label Golden Beast Records. Jason released the single digitally through bandcamp last month, but the vinyl will be something to collect.
You can catch Magicks at The Burlington on August 13th (tonight!) and at Reggie’s Music Joint on August 27th.
New Pillars & Tongues
Red Frost Industries released the latest from Pillars & Tongues, If Travel is Asked of Me, last week on Cassette and digitally. The release features tracks from the band’s last two singles, "Oaky (doting, in late summer)" and "(Laid) Palms to Tell", but with some new takes on it all. The cassette is only $3.
Russian Circles Video Series
Russian Circles are releasing a three part video series of performances from their latest album Empros. The album was their full-length released worldwide exclusively via Sargent House.
You can catch Russian Circles on August 23rd at Lincoln Hall with Marriages and Chelsea Wolfe.
The New Folk @ Schubas
The New Folk are celebrating the release of their debut album, Sea Fever, with a month long residency at Schubas. The residency kicked off with a show this past Monday, but you have three more opportunities to check out this great new band. You can catch them on Aug 13th, Aug 20th, and Aug 27th.
New Release from Cold Slice Cassettes
The latest release from Chicago’s Cold Slice Cassettes is a mysterious discovery created by a drifter/traveling minstrel. Natural High For Low People from Jehosaphat Blow has fascinating story and sound. As the story goes this recording was discovered and "re-mastered from a strange, purple tape found at a garage sale on Prince St. down in the southside of Chicago". Blow is an amazing one man band that must be heard and is a solid find for this fun local label.
