Chicago Stone Lightning Band

Posted on:

Downtown Records released the debut album from Chicago Stone Lightning Band this week. The band plays an exciting brand of blues and rock. With a band perform a vintage style of rock the recording process has to match, and Zach Goheen nailed it. The album was recorded straight to analog tape on a vintage desk live with very little overdubbing and effects.

Angel Olsen “Half Way Home”

Posted on:

Does an 8.0 on Pitchfork still mean what it meant say 7 years ago? It might not, but when it comes to the new album from Angel Olsen they could not have been more accurate. Half Way Home is powerful and gentle, folky and operatic, simple and complex, it is possibly one of the top releases by a Chicago musician in 2012. Olsen sings with a bubbling passion that she is constantly struggling to contain. There are moments where it spills out and those moments are thrilling.

Half Way Home was released by Bathetic Records on Sept. 4th and you can catch Olsen at Schubas on Oct. 6th with Dark Dark Dark.

Santah You’re Still A Lover

Posted on:

Over the labor day I found myself camping with my family at the same camp in Wisconsin as Vivian and Stanton McConnell of Santah. It was a wonderful coincidence especially when she performed a Neil Young song by campfire. We talked briefly about Santah and she is extremely pleased with the band’s new ep. The new ep is called "You’re Still A Lover" and will be self-released on October 16th. Our first taste of the ep is a track called "Indigo", an pseudo-anthem fitting for summer’s end. This is the band’s follow-up to their 2011 debut LP, White Noise Bed.

You can catch Santah opening for California Wives on Sept 12 @ Lincoln Hall.
