From Our Open Blog: Puritan Pine Tonight @ Township

Posted on:

Puritan Pine blends the sweet harmonies of 60s girl groups with the rough guitars and energy of 90s indie rock. You can love The Ronettes, Weezer and Flipper and still make solid musical sense. Puritan Pine is living proof. See and hear it for yourself this Friday night at Township, 2200 N. California.

Sample some advance tracks from Puritan Pine’s debut EP, Boomerang, on Facebook or Soundcloud. Puritan Pine plays with The Orions, The Sentinels and Handsome Lady. Catch four bands for $5. Guaranteed to beat staying at home folding your laundry while listening to the public radio pledge drive, watching the Rand Paul filibuster or waiting for the next drone attack. The music begins at 9.

Univore “Beasts From A Silk Womb”

Posted on:

David Bachmann and Nicholas Flandro (aka Univore) are back with a new project, "Beasts From A Silk Womb". This is the creative duo’s third project, and each have been very different. This project is a "loose interpretation of the modern and traditional mythologies of the end times, as predicted both by societies’ deliberate or incidental adherence to cyclic cosmology and by the frequent overzealous portraits of the rapture phenomenon put forth by multiple religious sects". Interested, I was. Clocking in a just 34 minutes, this project is truly unique and fascinating. You can stream the whole album here.

Univore is currently creating a short film to coincide with the album.

From Our Open Blog: Mutts “Five of a Kind” Video

Posted on:

"Five of a Kind", our, Mutts, second official video from the album Separation Anxiety, was directed, filmed and edited by Ian Scott McCullough. The point of having kids playing a graphic game of "Cowboys & Indians" was to unsettle the viewer. Many deep-seeded divisions in our society still exist – and the root of the problem is barely addressed due to our complacence that "it’s getting better." But there is much more to do, and this video is intended to rattle us out of consciously and subconsciously passing down habits of intolerance.

We apologize if the narrative is painful for those who’ve lost young loved ones to senseless violence. But hopefully the positive message will win out, and this video will compel more people to "cut the strings" that bind us to segregation and hatred. Also attached is the last track from Separation Anxiety. It leads into our next release – Object Permanence – an unplugged album available on April 2nd, with the Chicago release show at the Hideout on April 4th. Pre-order and preview our first amp-less LP here. Then pre-order release show tickets for a chance at winning our ONE extra vinyl test pressing.
