Sabers @ The Hideout

Sabers is a new band fronted by Josh Chicoine (the M’s) and featuring members of some of the classic indie bands from around the city, Head of Femur (Colby Starck), Poi Dog Pondering (Max Crawford), and The 1900’s (Edward Anderson). The band’s debut album is called Sic Semper Sabers and is being released this month. The album’s first single is called "Armchair Warriors".

You can celebrate the release of the new album on March 22nd at The Hideout. Also appearing Kate Adams and Forgotten Species.

Jon Langford “Weightless”

Jon Langford has released a video for the latest single from his upcoming album, Here Be Monsters. The album is being released on April 1st via In De Goot Recordings. Jon also has announced a free ep coming out on 7" called Days & Nights (Noisetrade) on Record Store Day (April 19th).

Angelina Lucero

Rooftop Sessions Chicago released their "Ugly Lamp" session with the amazing singer/songwriter Angelina Lucero late last week. Below is Lucero performing her song "Toothbrush".

Lucero is half of the duo Idyll along with Jojo Yang, and less than a month ago the two dropped a mind blowing singled called "Trouble". The duo attended SXSW over the weekend and continued to impress.

Pink Frost @ SXSW

Pink Frost is taking a break for recording their forthcoming EP to head down to Austin for three SXSW showcases. The band released their debut album, Sundowing last fall and have been building steam ever since. SXSW could be the platform to launch them even higher.

AEMMP Records SXSW Showcase

If you are heading down to SXSW and think you may feel a little homesick than you need to take note of the Columbia College AEMMP Records SXSW Showcase. The event takes place on March 13th at Bat Bar and feature a great mix of hip hop and indie rock including Carbon Tigers, The Giving Tree Band, Joey Purp, Dally Auston and Alex Wiley.

Album of the Month: Ryley Walker “All Kinds Of You”

The debut album, All Kinds of You, from Ryley Walker is impressive in its thoughtful restraint and intimate sounds and lyrics. Walker has spent years in Chicago’s noise scene, but this album is a near folk masterpiece. Walker shows skill in guitar playing, singing, and writing though the album. The album opens with the track that Walker is currently known for "The West Wind". It is a solemn journey that Walker present in a video last Fall. The production value of the album shines through on a track like "Twin Oaks pt. 1" where the sounds builds into a lush down home party complete with drums, strips, and guitar picking. All Kinds of You (Tompkins Square, April 15th) presents and old soul, a journeyman in the form of this talented 24 year old singer/songwriter.

Ryley Walker will be a part of The Hideout’s SXSW Send Off Party tomorrow night, March 8th, along with many other SXSW musicians. He will be performing at SXSW on Thurs. March 13th, Stephen F’s, Intercontinental at 10 pm.

Different Sleep “Damage”

Different Sleep (aka Rafa Alvarez) recently signed with Friends of Friends and has announced the details of his upcoming EP "Conflict". The EP is due out on April 22nd and, from the sounds of the first single "Damage", will continue his journey in in the realms of instrumental hip hop, EDM, and ambient music. He is one of the city’s best downtempo producers right now.

Different Sleep is heading to SXSW this year and will be performing in several showcase including the FoF Showcase on March 13th.

ShowYouSuck

ShowYouSuck has released two amazing videos in the last month. First was "Flip Phone", a track featured on his 2013 mixtape OMPP4: Slice After Death with illustrations by Benjamn Marasco.

Today he released a video for "Make-Out King" which appears on his recent EP "Dude Bro". The track itself was produced by The Hood Internet and Javelin and the video was directed by the talented Maxim Northover.

ShowYouSuck is part of the group of musicians heading down to SXSW to take part in the Chicago Made Showcase at Red 7 along with ProbCause, My Gold Mask, Bonzie, The Autmn Defense, Archie Powell & The Exports, The Hood Internet, and Chance The Rapper.

Divino Niño “Pool Jealousy”

Local psych band Divino Niño have announced the details of their forthcoming debut album Pool Jealousy. The album will be released by The Native Sound on April 8th and will feature tracks like "Pink Diamond", "Bottle Demon", and the latest single "It’s Been Like It Never Used To Be". Divino Niño is Camilo Medina, Javier Forero, Guillermo Rodriguez and Pierce Codina.

Medina and Forero met in Bogota, Colombia when they were very young, reuniting again in Miami, Florida in 2003, and have been playing music ever since.
