Umbra & the Volcan Siege “Stick It”
Umbra & the Volcan Siege released their latest album Somedays Coming Soon this week. The new album features the track "Stick It" which was also turned into the amazing video below.
Collages “Windy City Mirage”
Collages are the musical experimentations of Jesse Bustamante. Earlier this Spring he released song called Windy City Mirage. The tracks have a washed out and patchwork sound but underneath there is a very present musicality and beauty. There are so many contrast elements that the sound is heard to define, but like in the track "Way of the Wind" the result is wonderful Dream Pop.
Cedar Avenue Crew Presents: Mustaches
Cedar Avenue Crew has return with a new compilation that includes tracks from Opposites, Louis Armstrong Band, Beef, The Inebriati, and Squince. This months theme is "Mustaches".
Owls @ Subt
Owls (Tim Kinsella, Mike Kinsella, Sam Zurick, Victor Villarreal) are back with Two, the long awaited follow-up to their 2001 self-titled debut album. The four men were originally together in the early ’90 as Cap’n Jazz. These four musicians have been involved in numerous project over the latest two decades and Owls is among the finest.
You can catch Owls at Subt on May 16th to celebrate the release of Two.
Todd Kessler “Put You In My Pocket”
Todd Kessler and The New Folk recently released a new video for his track "Put You In My Pocket" from their 2012 album Sea Fever. The video was animated by the talented Sara Lim.
Todd Kessler will performing as part of a benefit at City Winery Chicago on May 31 for Below the Belt: Fighting For Women’s Pelvic Health.
Good Willsmith
Good Willsmith is one of the more original and truly inventive bands in Chicago. Back in March the trio of Maxwell Allison, Natalie Chami, and Doug Kaplan released latest album The Honeymoon Workbook (Umor Rex). The album is an adventure in sound that nearly moves beyond music into something much more ambitious.
Check out the video for the track "If anything happens to me, my password is Lady Lass".
Stolen Silver @ Hideout
Stolen Silver are self-releasing their new full-length album, We Have Everything We Have Nothing, this week. The band has released three singles from the album over the last nine months to built the excitement. The most recent and my favorite is "Prefontaine" which focuses on holding on to a relationship you feel rapidly slipping away.
You can catch Stolen Silver with Julie Meckler and Brian McSweeney celebrating the release of their album at The Hideout on May 10th.
