With a sound they called Scientronic, Byzantine Time Machine is one of the most unique and entertaining band’s in Chicago. The group combines horns, drums, electronics and vocals with to create a sound that could be compared to Cibo Matto at times.

J Fernandez recently announced that his upcoming sophomore EP will be released later this year via the French label Atelier Ciseaux. The label recently included his track "Fading Out" on a 6-track compilation. The track was previously released by Chicago’s Lake Paradise Recordings.

Willis Earl Beal has been making waves recently with the news that he has left Hot Charity (XL Recordings). It was two months ago that Beal quietly released an ep, Curious Cool, on his soundcloud putting his relationship with Hot Charity in question. In a recent interview Beal listed an array reasons for the surprising but not unprecedented move.
This week CD Baby announced that Beal’s new album, Experiments in Time, will be released in August through their online channel.
Vehicle Blues is the moniker of Gabe Holcombe of Lillerne Tapes. The local label Lake Paradise just released his first 7" vinyl "Luke Songs". The release contains three pieces of bedroom/dream pop gems.

The Bounds are releasing their debut album, Art Ain’t Rock, via Secret Art Society on July 4th. The names of the band and their history is being withheld by the society. Ok Go has done it again. In advance of their upcoming album, Hungry Ghost (due out in October), the band has released another amazing video this time for their new single, "The Writing’s On the Wall".

Sharpless (aka Jack Greenleaf) released their latest album, The One I Wanted To Be, digitally just over a month ago. The album featured previous singles "The Hardest Questions" and "Summer 2012" and several amazing vocal contributions from Montana Levy. Since the release Sharpless has been singed to Father/Daughter Records who will be reissuing the new album later this year.
Sharpless plays anthemic and aggressive pop with undertones of Japanese culture. Now that Greenleaf is done with school he will be based in Brooklyn, but his impact on the local scene was substantial and began way back in 2011 when he released his debut (+<).
