Haki

Posted on:

Haki is fronted by the talented Kelsey Ashby. On their latest release, Positive, her vocals range from rhythmic screaming to hushed crooning. Through out the album she shows incredible range and energy. The band’s sound ranges from thrash metal to punk to doom and never really lets up. They are destruction and beauty rolled up into a young explosive package.

You can catch Haki at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on August 6th with Evasive Backflip, Fake Limbs, Crude Humor, and Unabomber.

Modern Vices

Posted on:

Modern Vices is lead by the energetic and compelling voice of Alex Rebek. Their self-titled debut album will be released by Autumn Tone (home to like-minded Twin Peaks and The Orwells) on October 7th. They recently released their first single "Cheap Style". Their sound strikes a charming balance between garage pop, late ’50s croon, The Smiths, and The Drum. High praise, sure, but Modern Vices is already proving they can deliver.

You can catch Modern Vices at Subt on August 3rd with Zoo Brother, Twin Cabins, and Sister Savage and at The Burlington on August 15th with Heavy Times and Dead Gaze.

Villa Coola

Posted on:

Villa Coola is the new project of Gehring Miller (The Welcome). With The Welcome recently announcing that are "taking a break for the foreseeable future" it seems Miller needs a new outlet for his talent. This is a shift from the sound of The Welcome into a more of an Alt-Folk, lo-fi sound. Miller released his first batch of recording via soundcloud last week. You can stream/download the entire EP here.

You can catch Villa Coola at Beat Kitchen on Aug. 10th with Mike Petruccelli, Jason Swearingen, Hi Ho, and Gar Clemens.

Blue Dream

Posted on:

Blue Dream released their self-titled EP earlier this month. The band is a pure ’70’s psych rock throwback and the sound on the EP is tinged with a heavy and hazy dose of blues.
