Danny Malone is a young singer/songwriter who is ready for his next phase. His new release SpeedDreamer sounds like it will be a low key compilation than previous endeavors of lighthearted folk-rock. A lullaby rather than a get out of bed and start the day kinda vibe that shined on his album Balloons. Where you rather just chill with headphones and a zone out to Malone’s hazy vocals. Yes, you need a soundtrack to zone out and I presume this album will be a top contender. SpeedDreamer will be released next Tuesday Nov. 18. Brotherly love can make or break a band…unless y’all are actually brothers, than in that case you are stuck together for life. Amplified Heat fits into the latter category. Made up of a trio of brothers, Jim, Gian and Chris Ortiz, Amplified Heat know how to play that hard and gritty rock and roll. A throwback to the heavy psychedelic rock of Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, the brothers Ortiz have studied the best but put their Texas attitude front and center. Droned-out, industrial beats pour out of Jose Cota’s loops of 1980s horror film bass lines and the perfect amount of heavy drum beats, making sense of Ssleeperhold. Ruleth explores a variety of genres from the dream pop sounds in “timeghosts (i)” to the dirty, military-style hits in “F.I.S.T.” Ssleeperhold is a multitude of Cota’s expressions, screaming out into the electronic scene through a synth. -Halie Davis

A collaboration of music and video, Mike Aho, has created ((sounder)) as his musical project. Music videos and a film further explain some of the deeply, romantic music being produced by Aho.  The only embodiment of lo-fi you can feel is when the headphones are on and the volume is cranked up – because that’s when you begin to hear the subtle white noise echoing in the background. A voice combined with keys, an acoustic guitar and drums, easily, fill a room with emotional beauty across the spectrum. The band will be having their album release show this Saturday (Nov. 8) during Fun Fun Fun Fest Nites at The Parish.-Halie Davis

I’D DIE FOR LO-FI is three dudes playing music and looking pretty cool while they do it. Their name cements their unpolished vibes and they know how surrender themselves to the lo-fi sound. Take one listen to “Buds” and you’ll get it. The trembling vocals and the simple guitar riffs are right out of the indie-band textbook but, who cares, it sounds great. The Austin trio just wrapped up their “The Good Times” tour and are finally back in town and hopefully ready to rock. -Allison Mayoral

The Floridians play modern alt rock mixed with bro pop punk of the previous decade. Lots of boppy rhythms mixed with a bit of angst. Think of Jimmy Eat World but more pop energy than downbeat emo vibes. The Austin trio comprised of Travis Nottingham, Reid Drapp, Nick Serino recently released their debut album, Settle Down. They successfully started a Kickstarter to press the debut to vinyl. Hear them play cuts from their debut and maybe pick up a vinyl this Wednesday at Holy Mountain. 

If you are nostalgic for college basement rock than Tilly Loom has got you covered. With the release a new LP Sighs Lord Cromus this past week, you’ve got nine tracks to let the memories flow. Shy lo-fi lyrics over the indie pop cadence of happy guitars and the occasional tambourine. “Cicadas” nails the spirit of Tilly Loom. A little unsureness mixed with the poise of a musician doing what he loves to do. Think Real Estate mixed with Ariel Pink, and that’s a good combination. -Allison Mayoral 

Not many Austinites are familiar with Hispanic women musicians, unless it’s Selena or Ana Tijoux. However, Gina Chavez is one of those rare gems, with a Texas twang. “Miles De Millas” on Chavez’s sophomore album, Up.Rooted, brings in the Tejano-style beat accompanied by a dark, flamenco sound as she belts out English and Spanish lyrics in her polished, sweet-and-sour voice. Regardless of the obvious Latino influences, she still sticks to her southern roots in tracks like “Save Me” and “Maize” with rustic guitar strums. -Halie Davis

Hotel Vegas is a venue that welcomes local bands with open arms. The Bad Lovers will help them kickoff their second anniversary weekend. The Bad Lovers’ surf-garage rock sound is the perfect soundtrack for a Halloween Friday.  Like their name suggests they have a simple yet occasionally sloppy rock and roll sound. Nothing earthshaking but who really likes that anyways. There is nothing bad about taking it nice and easy. Released last October, their LP, Wild Times, does just that. The 15-song album is laid-back rock and roll listen that would pair well with any party. Grab a drink and check them out at Hotel Hot Burrito’s two-year anniversary weekend kickoff show at Hotel Vegas this Friday, Oct. 31. 

Garage rock should feel effortless. Guitar, drums and bass…that’s all you need. Ben Maddox, Wes Turner and Johnny Krueger of Hundred Visions get that simplicity is key. Their new track, “You’re Gonna Cut Me Loose,” has the indie-psych rock elements down. The scruffy guitars, distorted vocals and punk rock drum beat are enough to get you amped for their sophomore release. Thier new LP “SPITE” is out Oct. 28 via Pau Wau Records. Check them out this Saturday at Hotel Vegas. -Allison Mayoral

 Recently, the Scoot Inn threw a going away party for the true-to-heart indie folk band, Wild Child, as they departed for their European tour. Various stringed instruments – including the violin and cello – surround the sweet and sour vocals of Alexander Beggins and Kelsey Wilson. The dainty keys, perfectly toned bass and drum beats, when needed, balance the rest of the band. This six-piece band plays in true harmony to the beat of the music world. Wild Child has been recording their newest LP, The Runaround – which was just released on October 20th. -Halie Davis

A classic sounding punk band has risen from the 21^st century, and they are know as Crooked Bangs. The trio’s sound is ripe with heavy bass and catchy surf-goth riffs you could hear in a Quentin Tarantino film. The rhythm of the fast-paced band originates from drummer, Phil Gonzalez’s hi-hat clashes and kick drum punches as guitarist, Samantha Wendel follows along. The cherry on top is vocalist, Leda Celeste Ginestra’s pitch mirroring Glen Danzig’s deep, melodies – with French lyrics.  Crooked Bangs will be playing with another female-fronted band, Screaming Females, at Red 7 on October 23.-Halie Davis
