Whether it’s been through directing and shooting music videos for the likes of Shorty boy-boy and Boy Pierce or by taking part in and photographing various music events throughout Philly, Jonathan Applebaum is someone who has significantly contributed to the city’s music scene. But when he’s not behind the camera, he has also collaborated on some hilarious nautical pirate ballads as a part of Captain Scurvy and the S.S. Pancake. In honor of his 30th birthday, the pirate crew will take a break from looting and plundering the landlubbers to throw a celebration that will also feature some of Applebaum’s friends. The new collaboration between Joe Reno of Southwark and Jeremy Blessing of The Great Vibration, Soldiers of Soul will deliver some guitar-fueled blues rock, and Shy Boyz will showcase their comedic hip-hop stylings. The lineup will be rounded out by Dirty Soap Blues Band. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $6, 21+ – Bill McThrill
