Indie quintet the New Connection worked hard laying out their newest album at Cambridge Sound Studios, and the end result is a charismatic blend of bluesy rock vocals amid vibrant keys and illuminating guitar work. Their sophomore album, which will be available in CD & vinyl, definitely gives the band something to celebrate, and that’s exactly what they’ll do tonight at Johnny Brenda’s when they rock out at their record release party with friends Southwork. The cavalcade of former Mummers is an incendiary rock super-group on the rise that features members of the Swimmers, Distant Orange, and Fat City Reprise. And since the seven-piece collective is currently recording a debut album at Forge Recording, you’re guaranteed to hear a lot more from them down the road. Also on tap for the show is the always-explosive The National Rifle, who just finished up a tour that saw them playing inside indoor pools and vibrant art spaces, and will surely have good stories to weave. So listen in and get yourself connected. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Ave., $10, 9pm, 21+ -Bill McThrill
