What a drag: Drink Up Buttercup has confirmed today that they’ve broken up and that their appearance at The Fire’s Sundrop Arts and Music Festival will be their last under the DUB name. We knew it was coming months ago when we heard murmurs from mutual friends but were waiting for official word, and now that we have it (thanks to the Key for bringing it to our attention), we’re bummed out. Even though the spark started to fade according to frontman Jim Harvey and the buzz just didn’t match their pre-Yep Roc days, DUB was excellent at what they did (that’s why they were our 2008 Best Emerging Artists Poll winner and their debut full-length, Born and Thrown on a Hook, was our March CD of the Month [2010]). Still, out of the ashes comes the new, so we’re excited to hear what Jim Harvey, Mike Cammarata, and Farzard Houshiarnejad are gonna produce now that they’ve revamped as White Birds. Should prove interesting if "Veins Lined with Rust" is any indication. – The Deli Staff
