With a band name like Dark Blue, you might expect to hear electronic music that is as vast and spacious as the ocean. That is until you learn that the band is made up of John Sharkey III (Clockcleaner, Puerto Rico Flowers), Andy Nelson (Paint It Black, Ceremony, etc.), and Mike Sneeringer (Purling Hiss, The Loved Ones). And once you hear the opening power chords ring out from the project’s debut single "Subterranean Man," coupled with Sharkey’s vocal delivery that finds itself somewhere between Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy and Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, you may have flashbacks of your days as a goth kid in your all-black attire. Dark Blue will be celebrating its first release, a two-song 7" that is available via Brooklyn indie label Katorga Works, at PhilaMOCA this evening, where they have also promised to unleash some new tunes. The veteran power trio will be joined by Wyncote, PA hardcore outfit Anxiety Hammer. And in keeping with with the the venue’s Tuesday night tradition, a screening of British horror film The Hunger (1983), featuring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon and directed by Tony Scott, will follow their performances.
