Batty is a fledgling punk outfit hailing form West Philly/New Jersey that appears to still be evolving into their own. From their “shitty home recordings for reference,” you can hear angsty guitar riffs accompanied by primal trashcan beats and blown-out vocals. However, with their most recent live offering, “livin’ a lie,” which was posted to the group’s Bandcamp and recorded on May 15, 2013 at WKDU, the band demonstrates a more patient sound that is anchored by dark, heavy sludge-metal guitar work that journeys through the realm of psych rock. Batty participated in this year’s resuscitated Ladyfest Philly, and you can catch them tonight at West Philly DIY space The Mitten where they’ll be sharing the bill with South Carolina’s Chemical Peel (Ride the Snake Records) and local Goth punks Teenage Priests.
