watergh0st brings goth glo-fi to Brooklyn Bazaar on April 9th
The music of watergh0st (a.k.a. Rachel Roth) sounds much different live and unleashed than it does when contained in any physical or digital medium. As you might realize on April 9th at Brooklyn Bazaar, her songs contain an energy both rebellious and compassionate. The spectral sound of watergh0st’s material stretches up into the heavens and digs deep into the grit of the earth, which makes the exact genre hard to identify. You might find similarities to Crystal Castles, as her rich and moving voice soars over mysterious looping sound waves layered with bells, echoing industrial percussion, and guitars. You’ll find these layers prevalent — especially in the vocals — on her latest release, "Take The Time You Need". We are streaming below her newest release, the haunting "dusk".
At the April 9th Brooklyn Bazaar show, watergh0st will perform with prog-metal philosophers TVRKMENISTAN, "mad-sad" post-rock outfit Tiny Gun, groove metal alchemists KTHRTK, and the once-and-forever experimental math pop wizards NO SHOES. All NO SHOES fans weep, for this is their final show. – Will Sisskind
Talay promotes music video for “Parents’ House” tomorrow at Arlene’s Grocery
Megan Talay — a.k.a. Talay — never fails to put on a good punk rock show. She’s captured that electric energy into the music video for her song "Parents’ House", a witty track about trying to live an adult life while living in a childhood home. To celebrate the release of the video, Talay will perform with Narc Twain and Mae Capozzi at Arlene’s Grocery in the Lower East Side tomorrow night at 8:30 pm. If you can’t wait to see the video, though, you can stream it below. – Will Sisskind
Miles Francis releases “You’re A Star”, plays Union Pool on 3/16
Avant-pop artist Miles Francis has released his debut single "You’re A Star", along with a fresh music video for the track. To mark the release, Francis will perform at Union Pool on Thursday, March 16th with The Jack Moves and Kendra Morris. Francis not only wrote and produced the song himself, but performed all of the instruments on it as well, while recording in his basement studio. The track touches on balancing the search for popularity with happiness, which Francis experienced himself while touring with acts such as Will Butler of Arcade Fire. His video, directed by filmmaker Charles Billot, shows Francis in a white-clad suit as dancers in colorful costumes symbolize hunger for validation. The video features cameos by Katherine and Lizzie Lieberson of TEEN, both of whom will perform with Francis at Union Pool as members of his live band. Watch the video for "You’re A Star" below. – Will Sisskind

Adiós Ghost unveils new single “Uncanny Valley,” plays Knockdown Center tomorrow (03.09)
Brooklyn’s Adiós Ghost just unveiled the first single off of their upcoming debut LP, Fade Out With Your Phantoms, which is set to come out in April. While Adiós Ghost continues to embrace the West African-inspired sounds of their past, they’ve introduced influences of new wave and funk into "Uncanny Valley", referencing the groove-centered rock of early-80s art-rock legends such as Peter Gabriel. Those familiar with the band’s 2016 release Endless Return will hear more of the signature driven vocals from Ben Sigerson, as well as other familiar voices through featured guests C.F. Watkins and Half Waif‘s Nandi Plunkett. The track itself was recorded at the studio of Drew Vandenberg, who’s done production work for Of Montreal and Futurebirds, among others.
To celebrate the release of "Uncanny Valley", Adiós Ghost will perform at the Knockdown Center in Queens on March 9th with Shy Layers and Faten Kanaan. Stay tuned for details of Adiós Ghost’s Eastern U.S. tour, which will happen this spring after the release of Fade Out With Your Phantoms. – Will Sisskind
