DC’s psych rockers Paperhaus have announced that their 2nd EP Lo Hi Lo will be coming out May 28. In the meantime, NPR has shared their first single off it on the show All Songs Considered. The track "Helicopters" (below) is a glimmering example of the sweet tinge of lo-fi shoegaze tones layered with indie rock elements that reminds of a clash between Longwave and the Strokes. Love it. –Dawn

DC’s Bobbie Allen met Nashville’s Trent Dabbs at a gig in DC in 2011. Her beautiful voice and his songwriting skills came together in Young Summer, and the forthcoming synth-pop EP Ready or Not. The lead single "Fever Dream" (currently available on iTunes), full of seductive vocals and bubbling synths, promises an experience familiar to adventurous ‘80s pop fans, without being purely retro. Along with Baltimore’s Lovers and Reflections, Young Summer foretells a new movement in the Mid-Atlantic, yearning for impressive female vocals over prog-pop synths. –Natan Press
Ki Oni (roughly translates to Thurs. Demon) the northern VA based electronic artist got his name while sifting through a Toho Studio Monster site, and when not remixing 90’s cartoon theme songs and Grimes tracks, he is busy helping run Joy Pop Records and creating dope electronic atmospheres as heard on Tiny Elephants.
The chillwave beats are clean, tight, and invigorating and in the same realm as Funki Porcini and Four Tet. Each track is another highly creative soundscape that inspires. "Cruise" belongs on some runway at Fashion Week London. "Clouds" sombre tones make me envision some rainforest tribal musician taking on indie elements. And hip-hop inspired beats pop in occasionally throughout the LP, including the well layered "Trees."
Hailing from Annapolis is the indie rock band Cole Cash who are putting the finishing touches on their first music video and are working on their second LP (check out their first LP Radio, What Radio? below.) Here they tell us about comic book inspiration, getting mobbed at a Candlebox concert, and connecting with their audience. Now onto the interview…

You may remember the bombardment of year end lists and polls that dominated the social media stratosphere a couple months ago. Of course we at the DC Deli were a part of the chaos, and in that time, more than several local scene experts (mostly venue bookers and journalists) came to us with similar praise for the band that would become our Best Emerging Band of 2012. And that band is the surf garage rockers Shark Week. We wanted to find out more about the quartet comprised of Ryan, Danielle, Dan and Al. We got a hold of singer/guitarist Ryan Hunter Mitchell who tells us about fooseball tournament prizes, recording in Puerto Rico, and performing at Sweetlife Festival this year! Click here for the interview…

The DC rock scene has helped unit bands like More Humans, who have ushered in a new identity as not only being the home to our country’s capital city, but also developing some serious music talent. The three-piece band has created many daunting moments balanced by some somberness situations. Their album Demon Station invokes a single-mindedness theme to their tone and harmonies, giving their attention the importance of vocals and the realness of clean-driven guitars. –Tina Aita
Thrash metal-heads Warchild help fuel all those craves associated with bashing the hell out of your head. You’ve got your tight-knit mosh pit, your heavy erupting guitar solos, and you’ve got your extremely intense vocalist. The DC locals Warchild help conjure up those essential metal recipes to earn their spot as the new-school of the old-school metal bands much of the likes of Metallica and, you guessed it, Jethro Tull. Their lethal sounds and violent noises will surely amp up any sweaty and anxious crowd. –Tina Aita (photo by Metal Chris)
Maryland based hard indie rockers Rude Cab Driver came together in early 2012 under an unusual/unique situation- a show was booked by their now drummer, but the rest of the band didn’t exist yet. Now, the punk-tinged trio has a plethora of tracks under their belt, and an evergrowing fanbase that pushed them to the top of our recent poll making them our Band of the Month. We wanted to find out more about Jeremy Sigel (guitar/vocals,) John Mayhew (bass/backup vocals,) and Francisco Leonard Estrada (drums,) so we got a hold of couple of them. Here they tell us about group house band practices, DC pride, and German nuns. Now onto the interview…
