Earlier this month, Baltimore based rapper Yella Jesus released a video for his song “TDFYN,” produced by Tom Delay Beats of Brake Fast records. The video features Yella Jesus walking through the streets of Baltimore. Between the gritty lyrics, fabulously shot video (directed by Frky Felony) and well focused production of the beat, it makes this song something that is more than worth your time to check out. –Karl Dobias

Baltimore based pop punk’n’rollers Lisa Doll & the Rock n Roll Romance blast infectious melodies laced with punk tinged hooks that are beyond a nod to front woman Lisa Doll’s influences. After recently dominating our polls, she easily was crowned Band of the Month, and we wanted to find out more about this artist who is in the midst of setting up a killer tour this October. Here she tells us about Del Tigers, Joan Jett, and lunch money well spent. Now onto the interview…
It’s time to celebrate America! A person with such refined taste in music such as you has to celebrate America with some real live Americana. You want that stripped down sound of clean analog devices on reel to reel tape because the band doesn’t need all the digital trickery; an energetic band with perfect harmonies and intricately woven guitars on the album and live. But where can you watch well done (yet oh so rare) American music while eating American burgers (well done or rare) and see old American buildings (well worn and rare) that encourage you to appreciate America’s history all at the same time? I was wondering the same thing, and I found an answer.
On July 6th (the Saturday after July 4th, after which your head will be full of patriotic Russian tunes for some reason), you can go to historic Savage Mill, Maryland (between DC and Baltimore, so all of our local readership can join in peace, love and music), where the guys from Rams Head have set up a frontier post/tavern by the old mill they call the Rams Head Tavern Savage (rawr). There, the night time will be the right time to watch the Bleaker Street Cowboys (featuring a super group of old country souls from Baltimore and beyond) play selections from their new album candidly titled New Songs for the Old Country Soul. The album “pays tribute to traditional C&W and to both American and British influenced early rock & roll. Borrowing from the great classic artists Johnny Cash, Elvis, Roy Orbison and The Beatles 65, this new release is packed with big solid beats, tight vocal harmonies and stellar guitar picking that even James Burton and Scotty Moore would tip their hats to.” These guys are tight. Don’t miss it. The show is FREE! America! –Natan
Baltimore’s indie pop duo Dungeoness are back with another amazing video for the lushy track "Nightlight" from their s/t debut (out now via Secretly Canadian.) Jenn Wasner’s vocals soar like a smooth blend of Annie Lennox and Elizabeth Fraser while Jon Ehrens’ beatscapes provide the perfect score to that period of sleep where your dreams blend with reality. Check it out below.
DC based stoner-doom metal quartet Murder Troy knew they had their sound nailed down after their first gig together at The Pinch. The crowds reaction said it all, and the fanbase has continued to grow since as they’ve been crowned Band of the Month. We wanted to find out more about these guys so we got a hold of Devin Antoncich (drums,) Avi Elisar (guitar,) Joshua Zalipski (guitar,) and Robby Silva (bass.) Here they tell us about a Snagglepuss reference, casting spells through strings, and drenching the world in distortion. Now onto the interview…
Catch Murder Troy live next at the Rock & Roll Hotel on 7/6, and also at the Mazfest Music Festival in NY 8/1-8/4.
Baltimore based psych rock demi gods the Flying Eyes have released a music video entitled "Under Iron Feet" from their upcoming full length LP Lowlands (Noise Solution), due out July 26th. This eerie cinematic excursion of hard psychedelic rock reveres itself as a high definition interpretation of the psychedelic silk-screened videos of Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. Nonetheless, this video takes the viewer down a long tunnel of avant psych visuals as the band incorporates highly elaborate and costumes and the backdrop of the church turned music venue 2640 which is located in the heart of historic Baltimore City.
The Flying Eyes explore their darker experimental side as they begin to blossom with musical maturity and more complicated psych rock compositions. Keep your eyes open for performances from this band as they are embarking on an extensive European tour with fellow neo psych rockers, Golden Animals.
You can obtain The Flying Eyes/Golden Animals 7 inch split via H42 Records, and you can preorder the band’s full-length album Lowlands from German based record label Noise Solution. –Jordannah Elizabeth

You’re gonna chase the night with local favorite Alex Vans and the Hide Away at Tropicalia. You can thank me after your party/date compliments you on organizing such a perfect night out.

We wanted to find out more about these guys, so we got a hold of members Matt Sweeney and Alex Folkerth. Now onto the interview…
