San Francisco based art rock indie band, Growwler will be celebrating the release of their upcoming single, Long Hair, Short Wits, with an event at Public Works in the Mission District on Thursday, May 29th. Long Hair, Short Wits is a two track alt indie folk single that will invigorate your senses.

Rounding out the bill will be two other San Francisco based musical outfits, Giggle Party and Taxes. Public Works will be hosting a solid line up of alternative art rock, and if you’re looking to go to a show that confidently sits on the outskirts of SF’s usual garage indie line ups, you should attend this event. The San Francisco based psych americana band, Lee Gallagher and the Hallelujah have released a new music video for their single, American Flags. This hazy folk rock – americana track gives a serious nod to the musical aesthetics of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young but Gallagher’s voice upholds a particularly recognizable nod to Neil Young.

The lyrics are a bit mysterious, making it unclear in regards to if the song is actually as patriotic as the title implies. Nonetheless, the video is shot beautifully, and displays breathtaking panoramic views of the band and the American (Californian) countryside. The video also highlights all of the band member’s physical attributes, as the American Flags video is chock full of man beauty. There’s nothing but bootcut jeans, long hair, cowboy boots and tank tops, and it’s pretty great.

The new San Francisco based heavy indie rock band, WAG has released an impressive single entitled, Shed. This band of young and enthusiastic musicians has really stepped their game up over the last few months, and this new single proves that they are a band to watch. With this track’s spot on tonal, genre and time signature changes, the band shows some clean and daring compositional talent.

Shed starts off as an alt folk track, but quickly changes into a heavy indie rock song, and morphing one more time into a hard rock (almost metal) climax. With simple, but very personal lyrics, the song makes a strong statement without having to push the envelope. We’re into it. You should be too.

Recorded at Tiny Telephone and produced by Brandon Eggleston (Modest Mouse / tUne-yArdS / Swans ), this song is the last track off of their upcoming debut LP, No Worries, which will be released both online and on cassette through the Los Angeles based record label, DRrecords. –je

The Milk Bar in San Francisco is hosting a supreme night of experimental electronic music tomorrow, May 22nd. Local psych mixologist, Al Lover has made a name for himself by creating eclectic psychedelic soundscapes and curating the exclusive and official mixtapes for Austin Psych Fest.

Castle Face Records artist, Matt Jones of Male Gaze will be spinning analog synthesized audial creations, which will probably sound more odd than we can describe. Vampire Slayer and Rancho Shampoo are both electronic experimentalists who are based outside of SF and DJ Primo, another local DJ will add to the anticipated flavor of this line up.

This show is made up of an intensely atmospheric collection of talent. If you’re a voyeur of strange parties where you’ll have no idea what to expect, this is the event for you. All your creepy psych noise dreams could come true, so we recommend you attend this show at Milk Bar SF tomorrow night and have some fun. –je

San Francisco based singer/songwriter, Travis Hayes has released a new single entitled, Follow Me Home. Hayes’ raspy vocals and electro acoustic folk compositions are raw and honest. Follow Me Home is a catchy and penetrating track that displays touching narrative lyrics and well composed instrumentals. San Francisco based psych soul musician, Mark Nelsen has been embarking on a unique musical journey with his new project, Mark Nelsen Band. Nelsen, who is best known for his work as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the San Francisco based heavy psych ensemble, Electric Shepherd has been celebrated for his stellar songwriting and potent psych soul riffs.

We’re excited to premiere his new single entitled, Screwball (Change The Weather), which consists of two tracks: Screwball (Change The Weather) and Takes Two.

This single sounds a bit different from Nelsen’s previous solo album which exuded a folk psych ambiance. Screwball (Change The Weather) is a heavy, almost rockabilly single, that is fast paced and resembles tones that borrow from AC/DC, with touches of pop, psych rock and metal within them. These songs should definitely be taken seriously because he has proven to be a great songwriter and arranger time and time again from his previous releases and live shows. Nelsen went down a new avenue compositionally, but it works and we like it.

Breakdown Valentine is heading an earnest effort to bring electro pop to the Bay Area in a big way. This San Francisco based electro-shoegaze band will be playing a Deli Magazine San Francisco sponsored event with the likes of The Trims and Parallels at DNA Lounge May 23rd.

But before that happens, we would like to share a video teaser for Breakdown Valentine’s newest single, Breaking Visions. Their 2014 EPK, produced by Aja Pilapil of AJAPOPFILMS, has an intimate feel as it cuts rapidly from behind-the-scenes shots to performance shots. The single, which proves to be a dance-inducing number with up tempo guitar licks and synths will surely be a go-to tune for the summer. The single, Breaking Visions, will be available on Bandcamp on May 27th. –Erin Dage

San Francisco based neo psychedelic rock band, Sleepy Sun will be supporting the legendary soul musician, Charles Bradley tonight at the Regency Theater.

This is one of those line-ups a true music lover should not miss. Both musical artists are highly talented and certainly surpass the level and compositional quality of underground music. If you want to attend a seriously once in a lifetime line up in an intimate venue, you should make it out to the Regency Theater tonight and support Sleepy Sun as they open for a very important headliner, and a cherished musician in contemporary soul music. –je
