Debut The Lame-O’s EP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

Lame-O Records‘ Eric Osman found himself behind the drum kit on Cherry‘s latest release Dumbness. And now, the label head is kicking out the jams with Modern Baseball‘s Ian Farmer and The Superweaks‘ Evan Bernard, under the befitting moniker of The Lame-O’s. The fledgling power trio captures an exuberant energy to accompany the hook-laden melodies that make up the band’s all-too-brief self-titled debut EP, which was recorded at Big Mama’s and The Metal Shop by Bernard and Farmer (who also mixed the album).

New Track: “Exposure” – Remote Control

Posted on:

Philly darkwave trio Remote Control just shared its official debut single. The heart-pounding, low-end synths of "Exposure" gets you right from the gate. The guitar rings out beckoning for the macabre combination of vocals to emerge. Be warned: "Winter is coming," and you can find "Exposure" on the band’s upcoming EP Wasteland. It is also now available on limited edition cassette and digital format (below), which is accompanied by a remix from Crash Course In Science.

Weekend Warrior, October 20 – 22

Posted on:

Play The Songs You Like, the new full-length album from Radiator Hospital, officially comes out today via Salinas Records. In a corresponding move, the band will headline a release show this evening at First Unitarian Church. There’s a fuzzy familiarity in these songs – a bouncy enthusiasm that one can latch on to. Lyrically, one finds him/herself paging through a photo album as those sharp but ever-fading memories push back up to the surface. Even the sad points gain a luminous glow, the more time passes. The quartet continuously finds a way to tap into and trigger the communality of personal experiences, with a delicate, united, melodic touch. Tonight, they’ll be joined by the tender-rocking Baltimore trio of Outer Spaces, and capturing a kindred-comforting warmth, Emi Night-led Strawberry Runners, whose new EP In the Garden, In the Night is also now available courtesy of Salinas Records, reinforces the billing.  With a new EP on the way, local trio Eight will kick off the festivities. – Michael Colavita

New The Trust Fund Kids EP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

As he builds toward a debut LP, Kevin Connor, a.k.a. The Trust Fund Kids, recently issued a fresh EP The Sky Looks Like A Videogame. Creating a musical compound of upbeat jangle with underlying ghostly synth/keys, these songs pleasantly haunt. Nightmarish tales of isolation gather steam, as the light fixtures in a narrative tunnel are gradually brought to full power. There’s a vibrancy that persists through the dim times.

New Track: “LEAVE ME ALONE / LET ME LIVE / ALL BY MYSELF / REVENGE” – The HIRS Collective

Posted on:

How To Stop Street Harassment, the forthcoming album from The HIRS Collective, is scheduled for release on November 20 via Get Better Records. The EP is sharply summarized as “Ten songs about wanting to be left alone while minding our business being in public.” The four song segment of "LEAVE ME ALONE / LET ME LIVE / ALL BY MYSELF / REVENGE" pulverizes and pummels with an unadulterated release of emotion. Preorders of the release (limited to 100) includes the flexi 7" with a silk screened b-side, a short comic and other art by JB Brager, a self-defense kitty keychain, and a lyrics insert.

New Track: “Fear of Nothing” – American Trappist

Posted on:

“Fear of Nothing” is one of the singles featured on American Trappist’s new release Amuse-oreille, Vol. 1. Saturated in a dreary, surf tone, the song blooms from lingering melancholy. However, despite those indecisive hesitations, an enthusiastic instrumental momentum emerges. Overcoming the anchor of insecurities, the track catches fire toward its conclusion, taking on the obstacles that lie in one’s path with a newfound resolve.

Debut Hellrad EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Counting Sins is the new album from the trio of heavy, known as Hellrad. Featuring former members of JavelinaEat The Turnbuckle, and Jail, the band submerges one in a brutal bass-quaking, percussion-smattering onslaught. Nonstop, cavernous grooves weld with guttural, guiding vocals and thunderous riffs, producing an ever-advancing brand of sludge. Currently in the midst of a stretch across Europe, Hellrad will be back in town at Century on Friday, November 17, on a lineup that also includes Traitor, Night Raids, and Suppressive Fire. New Music Video: “839” – Eight

Posted on:

The second EP from the trio of Eight, which is comprised of Mimi Gallagher (Year Of Glad), Cat Park (Amanda X), and Pat Brier (Queen Jesus), appears to be on its way via Dead Broke Rekerds. In the meantime, a video shot by Scott Troyan and Park has emerged. Embracing the apple orchard scenery, “839” slithers. Interlacing Gallagher & Park’s natural sense of harmony, with jagged guitar and stabilizing rhythm, the track smoothly soars. You can catch Eight this Friday, October 20 at the First Unitarian Church, as part of Radiator Hospital‘s record release celebration, with Strawberry Runners and Outer Spaces. New Borzoi Boy EP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

Philly singer-songwriter Alexandra Gordon is now recording under the moniker Borzoi Boy ("like the Russian greyhound"). Enter The Light captures a certain hushed, candlelit, emotive intimacy. Letting the listener in on the thoughts that are encased in one’s mind, Gordon figures out her next move, while reminiscing on love and feelings of loneliness. The duality of brightness and bleakness grips as the sun trickles in through the curtains.

New Track: “Point of Personal Privilege” – Weller

Posted on:

“Point of Personal Privilege” serves as the second single off Weller’s full-length debut, due out on October 20. Gradually illustrating a poignant heart-wrenching tale, that optimistic imagery is torn to pieces by the harshness of reality. Somber self-evaluations, accentuated by the warm build of backing harmonies, come crashing, battered by swells of tension-releasing instrumentation. On Saturday, November 4, JJ’s Diner will be hosting the band’s record release show, with Three Man Cannon and Allegra rounding out the lineup.

New Melon Painting Album Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

With aid from Sanders Smith, Jon Cardiello, and Lukas Phelan, on his last day in Missoula, Montana, Cooper Hepburn recorded the songs that encompass Mountain (HOYA Recordings/Diet Pop Records), the new release under the moniker Melon Painting. Exposed, personal narratives endear in isolating, through-the-screen-door folk. Merging a jangly, laid-back simplicity with points of atmospheric ambiance, the record creates an immediate connection. Melon Painting is schedule to perform on Sunday, October 29 at DIY space Planet Phitness, with Marge and Neutral Shirt.
