Hardcore outfit Luxe recently shared its debut EP. Pinballing between fury and despair, these short bursts of adrenaline help to alleviate the pressure of bottled up emotions. Momentous swells of heavy bulldoze a lane for that guttural roar. Luxe is slated to perform this Sunday, November 12 at LAVA Space with Dolly and Composite.
New Ronnie Vega EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
The Lost Vega Vol. 1 is the new EP from Ronnie Vega. It unifies the grimy immediacy of punk and hip-hop, two genres that have historically crossed paths. Echoing the daily grind, these tracks shake with a sense of focused desire and desperation. Vega & Co. are slated to perform at LAVA Space this Wednesday, November 8, as part of a lineup that also includes Todd Killingz, Cult Objects, and Ohioans Vacation.
New Track: “Soil” – Power Animal
Power Animal’s forthcoming album, Good Wind Pt. 1, will be released on November 10 via the band’s charitable label Human Kindness Overflowing (with 50% of proceeds going to The Emergent Fund). “Soil” alludes to a time of death, as a percussive clap climbs, occupying the same space as a choral sample. A reflective self-awareness meshes with a beat-centric intensity, producing a heavy awakening affect. Don’t miss their dual record release show with Friendship next Friday, November 17 at Everybody Hits, where they’ll be supported by Free Cake For Every Creature and Tall Friend!
New Jordan Brown EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Savory soulful R&B is on display in Where We Were, the new EP from Jordan Brown. Produced by Kayin, the quintet of tracks is steeped in a smooth, street-walking sound. Consuming propulsion, cultivated by the groove-quenching beat and sleek vocal delivery, pulls one into an air of intimacy. As the temperature begins to dip, this debut solo release exudes heartfelt warmth. You can find Brown heating things up next Tuesday, November 14 at Pub Webb with Ill Natives, Little Strike, and Kingsley Ibeneche.

New Jo Kusy LP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Check out the cover for The Amazing Jumpin’ Jo Kusy! Does it cause you to wonder what makes Jo Kusy so "amazing" and "jumpin’"? Drugs? Or maybe it’s his knack for making playfully uninhibited, garage-psych tunes. The prolific Philly songwriter continues to churn out hypnotically odd yet groovy creations on his most recent album and fifth release of 2017. We have confidence that he just might have one more in him before the year is out – perhaps two if the winter chill comes soon and traps him inside. Until then, enjoy his latest below!
Weekend Warrior, November 3 – 5
Tonight, Johnny Brenda’s will be hosting melodic punk outfit Worriers. Commemorating its freshly issued album, Survival Pop, which is now available via SideOneDummy, the band captures a reflective, rambunctious, magnetizing current. Developing transferable narratives whose loose, focused build reaches undeniably momentous ends, these songs strike a nerve as one plants oneself in the midst of the storylines, letting the plot play out. Reevaluating flashbacks with future projections and the in-between (now), Lauren Denitzio and company push forward, producing a consistently adapting perspective that imparts an emotive recognition, reconciling with the causes of conflicts and embracing the points of positivity. Worriers will be supported this evening by the kindred spirit of Thin Lips and the harmonious, open-book powerpop of Katie Ellen. – Michael Colavita

New DARK MTNS Album Available for Streaming & Purchase
DARK MTNS, a.k.a. the tandem of Zack Robbins and Josh Mackie, has a new album, Up Above This Cloud, out now via Dub Sum. Grounded in harmony-stitched melodies, the collection of songs projects an effervescent glow. However, one can pull back that folk surface to reveal a murkier, hard-churning sense of complex and, at times, chaotic terrain. Wade into its reassuring, shoegaze-y waters.
New Weller LP Available for Streaming & Purchase
The trio of Weller recently shared its self-titled debut LP, which was produced by Jake Ewald (Modern Baseball, Slaughter Beach, Dog). Songwriting, soaked in emotive sincerity, forges a natural bond. Braiding heart-panging relatability with an upbeat energy, these songs make one feel less alone and hopeful of breaking through the fear. After touring for the better part of the last month, Weller will be returning home this Saturday, November 4 at JJ’s Diner for the band’s record release celebration that will also include Three Man Cannon, Allegra, and Beach Bod. New Sandcastle EP Available for Streaming & Download
A meandering melancholy of doo wop, medieval folk, and indie rock, Sandcastle‘s The Vampire was released at an ever-appropriate time. Featuring contributions from Zach Robbins and Josh Mackie (Dark Mtns, Flight Habit, Sun Organ) as well as Josh Meakim (A Sunny Day in Glasgow, The Fantastic Imagination), the album creates a cautionary sense of comfort, as if something is slight amiss. Sam Kassel and Dan Angel form a bewitching pair. It’s drearily delightful as one slips into the darkness.
The Deli Philly’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner: Buddie
Philly’s Buddie exhibit grit and vulnerability, filtered through fuzz. The quartet taps into an enthusiastic pop accessibility, without shying away from exposing the dark corners of one’s mind. So, it comes as no surprise that the band was influenced by the likes of Weezer and Nirvana; however, the origins of the band’s name is a bit more unexpected. When we hear “Bundy,” we picture Ed O’Neill’s bad posture, hand in the pants, and wise cracks on a couch – not the eyes of a demented serial killer. As we await new music from the group in the upcoming year, you can learn more about our recent Deli Philly Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner HERE.
