Formerly known as Sports, Remember Sports will release their forthcoming album, Slow Buzz, on May 18 via Father/ Daughter Records. Its lead single, "Up From Below," wastes little time, jumping out of the gates at a frenetic pace. A seemingly breathless vocal delivery matches the track’s instrumental intensity. Reflecting in an ongoing emotional-evolution, the song quickly gathers momentum while opening a portal into personal perspective. Remember Sports will headline Everybody Hits on Friday, February 23, where they’ll be joined by Tall Friend, Boosegumps, and Slow Ref.
New Hurry LP Available for Streaming
Every Little Thought, the new full-length album from Hurry, will officially be released on February 23 via Lame-O Records. In advance, the trio recently shared a video of themselves sitting consumed by their phones, with a sign that reads "EVERY LITTLE THOUGHT Hurry ‘world premiere’" hanging behind them while the album plays in its entirety. The collection of songs continues the group’s trend of producing crisp, melodic, personally-insightful music that moves with a loose but purposeful pace. The tracks go with the flow; however, they do manage to soar when the opportunity knocks. The band will be hosting its record release show at Everybody Hits on Saturday, February 24, supported by Amanda X and Worriers‘ Lauren Denitzio performing solo.
New Track: “Chains” – Lovelorn
In the aftermath of Creepoid’s final show, its offshoot, Lovelorn, has emerged with a debut single. “Chains” finds Anna Troxell, Patrick Troxell, and PeteJoe Urban pulling listeners into a haunted space. Anna’s vocals serve as the candle light leading the way through a labyrinth, as the backend marches in line and the guitar stirs, doubling down on the menacing atmospherics. You can catch Lovelorn’s first live Philly performance at Underground Arts on Sunday, March 25, with Dead Meadow and Dallas Acid.
New Slomo Sapiens EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Hot Milk, the new EP from trio of Slomo Sapiens, recently surfaced. Sweaty, slithering rock & roll pours out of the speakers. Harnessing fuzzed-out guitar riffs reinforced with sly, rumbling-through-the-streets rhythms, the band concocts a sugary garage-psych confection. Counterbalancing contagious vocals that switch gears on songs like “Floater,” with a heavy, omnipresent foundation, the batch of tracks appears playful at moments, but still packs a punch.
New Clamfight EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
An unrelenting menace radiates throughout III, the latest album from metal quartet Clamfight, which is available via Argonauta Records. Engulfed in an epic, long-view field of riff-rattling, the journey progressively pushes forward. A quaking, deep-embedded groove rumbles, setting the stage for the haunting command of a roaring, vocal display. An ever-explosive, instrumental force is delivered with calculated precision.

Debut Qwark Album Available for Streaming & Download
Combining Legs Like Tree Trunks‘ Jake Holden and Tim Mcmonigle with John Dicocco (The Mellowells) and James Tierney, Qwark just released their self-titled debut. Available on cassette via Lounge Worm Tape Collective, the seven-song set captures a raw, raucous spirit. Infectious yet volatile, the songs tap into an endearing, personal release, with a charge of heaviness. That rocking-chair effect of ebb and flow is soothing but ready to shake you out of your slumber. You can catch them at Ortlieb’s on Tuesday, March 13, alongside Straw Hats and The Rough Cuts.
New Music Video: “OK I’m Waiting” – Grandchildren
Philly DIY stalwarts Grandchildren are returning with a new self-titled album, scheduled for release in April via Ernest Jenning Record Co. Below is their new single/rendition of "OK I’m Waiting," which can originally be found on the band’s 2010 debut LP Everlasting. It is also accompanied by a new music video that was directed by Bettina Escauriza. In it, you’ll fine the group’s performance brought to life through the imaginative eyes of a child. Take a proactive aprroach to your dreams, before time passes you by.
Weekend Warrior, February 16 – 18
I was asked to write this week’s Weekend Warrior because there are few (if any) Philly bands that I have come to know better than Creepoid. In a way, this Saturday feels like I’m about to attend the funeral of old friends whom I’ve grown up with, which is actually kind of true. I remember first discovering the band in my earliest days of writing for The Deli Philly. I became enamored with their first single, “Pink Tag Sale,” which I discovered while searching for new music on MySpace. (Lol…does anybody else remember those days?) We eventually met at a show in South Philly, and bonded over our love of consuming weed and alcohol, which I’m sure is a common connection that they have with many folks. However, what really kept me coming back to their shows were their beautiful melodies and explosive jams, as well as the air of unpredictability that always seemed to surround them.
Case in point – the grunge-psych quartet of Sean Miller, Anna Troxell, Pat Troxell, and PeteJoe Urban had just sold out their release show for the Horse Heaven LP at Kung Fu Necktie. There was a sense of something special building that evening. Well, at the band’s very next show a week after, I attended another packed performance at Tritone, a defunct music venue that used to inhabit where The Cambridge now stands, across the street from beloved Philly institution Bob & Barbara’s. Things were certainly chaotic that evening and not quite going the band’s way. We were all having fun before their set, and probably got a bit too lit – some more than others (PeteJoe ;-). Long story short – the band ended up imploding on stage, which nearly ensued into an all-out brawl amongst themselves. I remember leaving that show thinking: “Shit – I just watched the end of Creepoid.” I texted Pat the next morning to see if that was true. They were all hungover at breakfast, laughing about what had happened the night before.
Ha…I guess, in a way, it’s been fortunate that the band has lasted this long, and I am thankful that it has. This Saturday at Union Transfer will surely be bittersweet, but I’m certainly looking forward to seeing old friends, familiar faces, and a kick-ass Creepoid show for one last time. Hope to see you there as well. And of course, #BringWeed! – Q.D. Tran

New Track: “Outnumbered” – The HIRS Collective
Friends. Lovers. Favorites., the first official full-length album from The HIRS Collective, is scheduled for release on April 20 via Get Better Records/SRA Records. An eye-popping array of guests that includes Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, Garbage’s Shirley Manson, and Screaming Females’ Marissa Paternoster just to name a few can be found on the forthcoming record. The LP’s closer, “Outnumbered,” issues a warning message aimed at those whom infringe on the rights of trans-women. Along with Thou, HIRS will be supporting Screaming Females at Union Transfer on Thursday, April 5, which is presented by WKDU.
New Track: “Boy” – Instupendo
“Boy,” the new single from Aidan Peterson, a.k.a. Instupendo, is an awakening attitude adjustment. It starts the day off on the right foot, while delicate, tiptoeing keys gradually gain depth and pace. Subtlety developing layers before revealing the groove, the song captures an elegant, dance-catalyzing density. You can catch Instupendo at Coda on Friday, March 30, opening for Digitalism.
New Cameron Boucher/Field Medic Split EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Yesterday, local imprint Flower Girl Records issued a split release between label founder Cameron Boucher (Sorority Noise, Small Circle) and Field Medic, a.k.a. Kevin Patrick Sullivan, with its proceeds going to Covenant House. The four-song selection is directly linked to one’s emotive core. Vulnerable, folk instrumentation places a spotlight on the open love letter lyrics in “Of Alaska” and “ITL” (Reprise). There’s beauty in embracing and accepting the imperfections of those you love. Field Medic is part of tonight’s lineup at Everybody Hits, which also includes Kississippi, Shannen Moser, and Cherry.
