Live Video of Chiddy Bang – Freestyle/”Opposite of Adults”!

Posted on:

Below is some footage of Chiddy Bang from their show in NYC at Irving Plaza on January 29, 2011 (courtesy of Arena Rap). You’ll find Chiddy freestylin’ from a list of random words picked from the audience and kicking into banger “Opposite of Adults”. Looks like they had the place bumpin’, but the only problem is that there were definitely too many brahs hopping on stage. Come on fellas! Where are all the ladies at? You need to have a talk with security next time. Enjoy! – The Deli Staff

Daytrotter Session w/Hermit Thrushes

Posted on:

Daytrotter just posted its session with local avant garde outfit Hermit Thrushes. The five-piece consisting of Yianni Kourmadas, Andrew Keller, Charlie Biando, Nick Brannon and Sam Tremble blasted through the studio with a brief set of their organized chaos and angular guitar riffs to prove once again that there are certainly some unique sounds coming out of Philly. You can check out and download their session here. (Illustration by Johnnie Cluney) – The Deli Staff

Akasha Blade Opens for Mi Ami at DDG March 12

Posted on:

Akasha Blade, a.k.a. the one-man noise factory Adam Cooper, is a sculptor of indie knack. A talented side man for lo-fi indie dreamcatcher Annie Sachs, a.k.a. Tickley Feather, Cooper mixes an intertwining throwdown of basted punk, saucy noise, and dancey electro-clash like a mad scientist. But you can only truly experience his work two ways: by snagging a copy of his crunchy 20-minute cassette release for Linear B, You Will Be Recycled, or shuffling your way to Danger Danger Gallery tonight, where he’ll work his alchemy on stage (although, seriously, you need to do both–and, if you can, get your hands on one of the limited edition copies featuring silk-screened jacket art by Jamie Dillion, DO IT). And to sweeten the pot, catch the guitar & skins noise-turned-synth & machine lush of San Fran/NYC’s experimental indie duo Mi Ami, like you should. Joining them will also be the on-slaught mind-fuck stage show of post-punk/garage-rock trio Northern Liberties (whose slew of releases don’t do justice to their shredded art) and the vintage, spastic art-punk smacks of Philly’s Combine to hold you over. It’s about to get weird, in a very good way, at the gallery this evening! Danger Danger Gallery, 5013 Baltimore Ave., 8pm, $5-$10, 21+ (Photo by Holly Landergan) – Annamarya Scaccia

Buildadelphia Benefit Show at The Fire March 12

Posted on:

Lo-fi psych compliments Sunny Ali & the Kid amp up to shred riffs for a cause at tonight’s Buildadelphia benefit show. Pairing Ali & the Kid’s quasi-moody clever hooks with the pop fizz of Nicos Gun, this civic friendly lineup is great way to catch a chilled out version of what you might have missed last night at Making Time. Add in the intimate setting of The Fire plus the promise of catching a show with some friends, and this benefit is nearly irresistible to attend. Other acts who will be donating their time and talents are Sherman (the band), Girls Dressed as Girls, KillerWhale, and Jac. BTW: Don’t forget to grab your copy of Sunny Ali & the Kid’s Try Harder that was just made available on cassette! The album is a former Deli CD of the Month, and you can check out our review of it here. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $7, All Ages – Dianca Potts

The Bigger Lovers Release/Re-release Show at JB’s March 12

Posted on:

2001 was a huge breakout year for The Bigger Lovers, whose debut album How I Learned to Stop Worrying landed on several key Top 15 Lists at the end of the year. But four years and two albums later the band packed it in and decided to go about their separate ways. But its members never strayed far from the music path, and even rocked out with other bands such as BC Camplight, Audible, Missing Palmer West, and The Pernice Brothers. But in honor of the 10 year anniversary release of their debut album and the release of a maxi-single Little Giant that features four lost songs and a single, the group is ready to return for a special reunion at Johnny Brenda’s tonight. And whether this shows leads to a full fledged reunion is uncertain, it’s sure to be a fresh blast from the past that offers loads of nostalgia. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Bill McThrill

Weekend Warrior, March 11 – March 13

Posted on:

There is a lot going on at your favorite indie music haunts tonight. If you don’t have a ticket for anywhere yet and still aren’t sure where to go, then we’d like to suggest a low-key, under the radar option for the evening with Hop Along, On the Water, Thom McCarthy, and Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Band at The Spruce Caboose. All proceeds go to funding a zine/compilation scheduled for release in the spring. It’s also On the Water’s Taylor Jamison’s birthday so there’s another reason to go, drink up and celebrate! The Spruce Caboose, (ask a friend or one of the acts), 8:30pm. $3 – $5, All Ages

Nicos Gun Hitting Making Time w/Bikini at Voyeur March 11

Posted on:

Congratulations, you survived another week. It’s Friday, celebrate. Get rad with Making Time and local dance party starters Nicos Gun! Fast paced backbeats and buzzing synth make this four-piece’s onstage antics the quintessential kickoff to a weekend of ragers and rock and roll. Jams like “Modern Cool” channel the funk-tastic bravado of James Murphy (DFA, LCD Soundsystem) while “Dirty Girl” unfolds with a sense of sexy sass reminiscent of Prince or Kevin Barnes’ weirdo alter ego Georgie Fruit. Dance inducing pop that goes down smooth with booze, Nicos Gun will get you sweaty and feeling ultra fab in the Ruby Lounge. Bikini will be headlining the main stage, and Dave P and all his DJ pals will be getting you hyped up with their futuristic sounds. Voyuer, 1221 St. James St., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Dianca Potts

Creepoid Open for Merge Artists The Love Language and Telekinesis at JB’s March 11

Posted on:

Creepoid are gearing up to play a serious amount of shows at SXSW where they will be opening up for some big names and probably building their current buzz to a national size. It would come as little surprise to see their name show up in a ton of blogs during SXSW frenzy. Hopefully, it will be for their brooding, fuzzy, slow burners like personal standout “See-Through” that sounds like Sparklehorse’s grungy younger brother, and not their punk antics that made their last show impossible to look away from in a car crash sort of way. Tonight they are revving their engines and ironing out their stage banter with a show at Johnny Brenda’s in what will be a send off of the SS Creepoid of sorts. If you haven’t already picked up their debut LP Horse Heaven, do so now and thank us later. They have some nice fresh vinyls waiting to be spun, and you can grab your digital copy too here. Creepoid will be opening up for Merge artists The Love Language, who create refreshing folk-pop, and fellow label mates Telekinesis, whose upbeat indie stylings are extremely catchy without being saccharine sweet. Overall, it is a pretty sweet lineup and perfect way to spend a Friday night. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Adam G.

Conversations With Enemies Open for The Rural Alberta Advantage and Blood Like Mine Open for Zomes at FUC March 11

Posted on:

With some heavy hitters in Toronto’s indie outfit The Rural Alberta Advantage performing downstairs at First Unitarian Church and Baltimore’s Zomes (solo project of former Lungfish guitarist Asa Osborne) playing in its Side Chapel, tonight will be business as usual for R5 Productions. Right in their element opening for Rural Alberta Advantage, Conversations With Enemies is a band that’s energetic as they are eclectic, whether their dressed as Rocky Horror and doing the Time Warp, channeling gypsy love tunes involving grave robbery and zombies, or releasing an album with its own graphic novel. Opening for Zomes will be Blood Like Mine, a slightly mysterious collaboration between singer Rosali Middleman and guitarist Geoff Bucknam from Free Energy and Niagara Falls. You may spread yourself thin going from stage to stage, but it might be totally worth it. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St, 8pm, $10/$12, All Ages Bill McThrill
