Everyone Is Talking About You is the debut EP from Gladie. Encapsulating a range of earnest emotion, there’s an inviting, open door that reveals the deeply personal, while hitting universally home. You’ll find grains of hope within grounds of despair, as well as enriching lessons to be learned from mistakes made. Catch the band this Wednesday, May 23 at Everybody Hits with Doll Baby, Bat Boy, and Big Nothing!
Weekend Warrior, May 18 – 20
A mysterious psych/surf sonic structure sweeps through when breathing in the music of Sixteen Jackies. Serenading in relaxed, sand-in-your-toes melodies that rhythmically breeze by but hint at an underlying stormy volatility, there’s a cautious, haunting element that lays in wait, stirring up the atmosphere in funky, possessive, art-rock/pop grooves. Incorporating the serene with the slightly strange and cutting through the mist with moments that set you in motion, the glam quartet hovers the threshold between calm and combustible. Tonight, at PhilaMOCA, Sixteen Jackies will be celebrating the release of their double EP 12” vinyl, Movie Was Bad & Mascula, via Born Losers Records. They’ll also be joined by The Lawsuits’ offshoot Isles Isles, the tumultuous, trance-inducing fun of Madalean Gauze, and the hazy, splintering get down of Long Hots. – Michael Colavita

New Quiet Slang/Beach Slang Album Available for Streaming & Purchase
Everything Matters But No One Is Listening is the new album from Quiet Slang, which is out now via Polyvinyl Records. Strings and piano reshape the instrumental environment of these Beach Slang songs. Rather than rearing back and roaring, these takes sit back – still exhibiting poignant power but with more space and air, allowing the lyrics to gradually sink. Originally slated to perform this weekend, Quiet Slang is now scheduled to take the stage at Underground Arts on Saturday, July 14, supported by Abi Reimold.
New Track: “Key & Bone” (revisited) – Heavy Temple
Originally featured on Chassit, the power trio of Heavy Temple recently shared an augmented version of “Key & Bone” (featuring Thunderhorse). While its previous incarnation orchestrated an eerie cathedral of sound, the fresher take wastes little time, throwing you directly into the pressure cooker. Oozing a fuzzy hypnosis, the band proceeds to shred and stampede in tight, explosive, instrumental pockets.
New Remember Sports LP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Ahead of its release tomorrow via Father/Daughter Records, Remember Sports‘ new LP Slow Buzz is now available for streaming & purchase below. The group’s sound penetrates as personal narratives trigger an emotional response. Those matriculating melodies create a level of comfort; however, the band can dramatically shift gears, creating cathartic, catchy, raucous rockers that’ll stick in your head in the best way. Remember Sports will be holding their Philly record release celebration this evening at PhilaMOCA, where they’ll be joined by Shamir, Friendship, and Comfy.
New Track: “I Can’t Love Anyone” – Secret Nudist Friends
Recorded and mixed at The Headroom by Kyle Pulley, “I Can’t Love Anyone” is the new single from the quartet of Secret Nudist Friends. Sitting in a warped, kaleidoscopic groove, casual honesty gradually morphs into the looming pain of loneliness. You can find this impassioned, garage-psych gem on the band’s upcoming split EP, So Cool, with Blushed, which is due out on June 22 via Good How Are You Records. You can catch Secret Nudist Friends at Undergrounds Arts on Sunday, June 10, supporting La Luz and Timothy Eerie.
New Track: “Illuminate and Burn” – Straight White Teeth
Plume‘s Paige Pfleger has joined up with Patrick McGuire (formerly of Flashbulb Fires), on his latest project, Straight White Teeth. “Illuminate and Burn” is the first single, featured on their forthcoming release Physical Truth. McGuire and Pfleger interlace vocals over a folky beginning, before an enlightening injection of synth and percussion comes to play. Heartfelt harmonies are cast into motion by the dance-generating backdrop. Sincerity, provided with a dose of sadness over the unpredictable nature of the future the song, captures a bright/bleak dichotomy.
New Mack Enemy EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Mack Enemy recently shared its latest EP, titled Promo. Combining space-age, suspense-driven transmissions with menacing, backend rhythms, you may feel a sudden urge to flee, as the commanding guttural roar of vocals reign down. Oddly, a danceable despair is molded. But don’t be surprised if you feel the urge to break out, or just simply break something.
New Track: “Apollo” – Past Life
Past Life has a new single, “Apollo,” out now via Drexel University’s MAD Dragon Records. A nod to Greek & Roman mythology, the track exhibits an inherent enthusiasm as well as a deep yearning. From a jogging start to all-out sprint, there’s the feel of burgeoning romance, joyously catching fire in melodic, pop power. The B-side is an acoustic take, whose bare piano-lead provides a confessional ballad approach.
New Track: “Everything You Do” – Lonely Ghost
“Everything You Do,” the latest single from Kenny Forrester, a.k.a. Lonely Ghost, gently reaches out. A clean guitar pattern clears a corridor for the soothing softness. That peacefully illuminating tunnel opens up with the addition of percussion. A dreamscape of appreciation, the song captures an airy, pensive depth.

New Track: “Harsh Reality” – Luxe
“Harsh Reality,” the new single from hardcore outfit Luxe, can be found on the Fresh! Volume One compilation, which is now available via New York imprint Teeny Tiny Records. A rumbling rush pushes out the gates, spilling over with a raw release of intensity. Those hard-driving tones momentarily give way to a percussive breakdown and demented power chords and licks, before the final blitzkrieg unfolds. Be the last one standing when Luxe joins Open City, Red Hare, and Greg Electric (featuring members of Loose Tooth and Nine of Swords) on Saturday, June 2 at Everybody Hits.
