Edelweiss Headline All Ages Show at The Fire Sept. 1

Posted on:

While we generally stay in the Philly area, we do enjoy discovering and giving exposure to other Pennsylvania bands who come perform to our great music city and don’t happen to have a Deli branch in their town. After all, we might have missed out on interesting acts like Soars (Lehigh Valley), Strand of Oaks (Wilkes-Barre, at the time, but he might have made it to Mount Airy by then – you know how everyone stopped updating their MySpace, and he hadn’t made a Facebook or Bandcamp page yet), and all the fine Bucks County groups. Well, indie pop-rockers Edelweiss are from Stroudsburg, PA, and they’ll be headlining an all ages show tonight at The Fire. The quartet will be releasing its debut EP Pre-Columbians, which was produced by Jeremy Sklarsky (Freelance Whales, Teenage Fanclub, The Morning Benders), on September 13. Edelweiss delivers a delightfully smooth sound with multitudes of textures and a captivatingly casual play between bass and guitar. And they are still in high school so you (older Deli readers) may not want to go backstage with them to avoid any run-ins with the law. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 7pm, $10, All Ages – Brandi Lukas

She Came Crashing to the Stage at North Star Aug. 31

Posted on:

New wave/synthpop duo She Came Crashing is made up of sister-brother combination Amanda Rose and Ray Tadeo. Their arrangements keep things rather dark and bleak with hints of hope but certainly danceable. However, it is Amanda’s vocals that float above the murky synth driving their tracks toward the light. They’ll be taking the stage tonight at the North Star alongside Jerzey indie rockers Brick + Mortar, local area pop rockers Rivers Munroe, and fledgling acoustic pop duo Hot Brush. North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 9pm, $8, 21+ – Alexis V.

Free Download: Сибирь (Sibir’) – Norwegian Arms

Posted on:

Below are two new tracks that Norwegian Arms just posted from their latest EP Сибирь (Sibir’). The songs were recorded by Jose Diaz at the OX. You can download the EP for free (or pay what you wish) HERE. Also read what Norwegian Arms mastermind Brendan Mulvihill (a.k.a. Keith Birthday) had to say about them.

So, I’ve been sitting on these songs for a while. I’m not entirely sure why, but I guess it’s because like all things I release, I’m insecure about giving them away, cause I’m not sure how they’re going to come back.

These are two songs which, although also about experiences in Russia, they just don’t fit with the other music. Sonically, they’re a little different, instrumentally, they’re on a guitar. There’s a possibility that they’ll appear on the full length we’re to be recording this fall, I’m not entirely sure yet. If they are, they’ll appear somewhat differently.

One was written while holed up inside a Siberian apartment in the dead of winter. The other was written prior to moving to Russia, but guessing what the experience of the first would be like. So they’re both about the same thing, only the first is the preconception and the second is the reality. This is different than I originally released them, but upon consideration, I think they’re better in this order. Sorry if that messes up your tracks in your digital music player.

Moon Bounce Opens for ANR at KFN Aug. 29

Posted on:

OK, can we get back to enjoying live shows again? I hope so. Tonight be prepared to be mind-fucked by the meticulous compositions of Moon Bounce (a.k.a. Corey Regensberg). Blending samples, acoustic instruments, found sound percussions, and vulnerably dramatic vocals, his glitched-out, dub-esque beats can create moody, orchestral ambience that often veer into hallucinogenic stratospheres of otherworldly musical realms. Weird and wonderful – you should definitely download his FREE debut EP Darn Your Best Frock HERE. Moon Bounce will be opening for Miami synth-pop duo ANR (who used to go by the poorly thought-out band name Awesome New Republic). Also on the bill is new Philly experimental pop act from LA Tygerstrype. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman
