Moon Women Test Run New Bassist at D!D!G Sept. 11

Posted on:

Moon Women have been kind of quiet this summer, but like their music, it’s probably just the calm before the storm. Tonight they’ll be bringing their driving rhythms and super-masculine vocals to Danger! Danger! Gallery for a test run with the band’s new bassist before they bring it to the bigger stage of the First Unitarian Church this Tuesday opening for Starfucker. Well, until the storm comes, you can remind yourself why you should be afraid with the live performance video of “Light Moves Slowly” from Moon Women’s show at JB’s with Disappears and The Psychic Paramount on July 28, 2011 (courtesy of videographer Joe Burns a.k.a. pilgrimsprogress). Also on the D!D!G bill are Seattle’s Grave Babies and Brooklyn’s Xray Eyeballs. Danger! Danger! Gallery, 5013 Baltimore Ave., 8pm, $5 – $10, All Ages – Alexis V.

Free Download: Daytrotter Session – RYAT

Posted on:

Daytrotter just posted their session with local electro avant-pop duo RYAT (a.k.a. Christina McGeehan and Tim Conley) earlier today, and it sounds pretty fuckin’ amazing. Unfortunately, their illustration didn’t come out the same. LOL…no worries – we know that they are an attractive couple and not really extras from a Mad Max movie. You can download RYAT’s session HERE for FREE which includes “Time Worn,” “Not for this Lifetime,” and “We Walk Slow, but as fast as their Rush” from Avant Gold and a cover of Flying Lotus’ “Nose Art”.

Work Drugs Opens for Peter, Bjorn, & John at The Troc Sept. 10

Posted on:

If there’s one thing we love here at the Deli, it’s when our fave local bands spend a month touring our beloved city. And Work Drugs, with their always-flirtatious, soulful (and can we say, suave) chill-wave melodies, definitely falls into that camp. Last Saturday, they made killer tracks at the FREE 215 Magazine/Vitman Water Uncapped Live gig with Sun Airway at Sigma Sound Studios. Tonight, they’ll spread their glossy, breeze-meets-posh sound across the Trocadero stage when they open for the infectious Swedish indie rockers Peter, Bjorn & John. Then on Monday, they’ll perform at the Key’s FREE first-ever live Key Studio Sessions show at World Café Live with Hezekiah Jones & Andrew Lipke and Black Landlord (RSVP for the event HERE). And, to top it all off, they’re tapped to play the Popped! Music Festival’s pre-party with Blayer Pointdujour at Johnny Brenda’s this Friday (that’ll cost you a $10 cover). Sure, that’s a lot for one week, but we’re sure we don’t have to tell you should make your way to each one, ‘coz, seriously, they’re worth every minute. The Trocadero, 1003 Arch St., 9pm, $18.50 – $21, All Ages – Annamarya Scaccia

Coup Couroux Opens for NewVillager at KFN Sept. 10

Posted on:

Listening to the tightness of Coup Couroux‘s staccato Strokes-esque songs with some synth flourishes and the sultry voice of frontman Simon Lowe, it’s really no surprise that the buzz surrounding this local electronic pop project is picking up steam. After all, not only did the band win last year’s Beta Hi-Fi Festival, which brings together a batch of local talent and whittles them down to the best and brightest, but they recently snagged the title of the Deli’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winners (read our interview with Coup Couroux HERE). And tonight, they’ll open for bi-costal pop affair NewVillager at Kung Fu Necktie, giving you a chance to witness Lowe croon like soul-revivalists Fitz and the Tantrums or Jamie Lidell while supported by music that almost seems sculpted by Fountains Of Wayne. But while you wait to jump on the EL for the show, stop by their Bandcamp page to listen to their recently released self-titled debut EP, which was recorded by DJ Afro. We guarantee you won’t stop dancing. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7:30pm, $10-$12, 21+ – Adam Gould

New Music Video: “Dead End” – Reading Rainbow

Posted on:

Below is a new music video from Reading Rainbow for the track “Dead End” that appears on the split 7” with Super Wild Horses for Hozac’s Hookup Klub series. The footage replicates the aesthetics of “some no wave films from the 80s.” The video was directed by Taryn Jones. It premiered earlier today via Stereogum. You can catch Reading Rainbow next in Philly for free at the Vice/Vitamin Water Uncapped Live showcase on September 29 at Sigma Sound Studios.

Hanging w/Dante Bucci at Tin Angel Sept. 9

Posted on:

What Dante Bucci is able to achieve with the Hang is dazzling. Using the spherical lap instrument (which, by the way, totally looks like a UFO out of a ’50s cult sci-fi flick), the Holland-born Philly musician can interweave the delicate, layered tresses of classical composition with the smooth breathes of experimental dynamics and the bashful, yet complex diapasons of folk. It’s ambient world music that can expand the atmosphere of small spaces beyond the walls they’re confined to and transport you to a higher state of being. And that’s something Bucci will no doubt achieve when he plays Tin Angel tonight. He’ll be sharing the bill with singer/songwriters Andrea Nardello and Victoria Spaeth. With all the drab weather we’ve experienced as of late, isn’t it time you experience something beautiful? Tin Angel, 20 S. 2nd St., 10pm, $10, 21+ – Annamarya Scaccia

Lightninging Strikes at KFN Sept. 9

Posted on:

Humorously named Lightninging can create some loud rock ‘n’ roll, but yet aren’t afraid to pull back the reigns and show a little more of the introspective side to their songwriting abilities. The combination of Mark Cruttenden, Greg O’Neill, Dave Pope and Matt Williams swap vocals and instruments like guitars, bass, percussions, and even a trumpet while drummer Greg Foran remains the steady backbone of the group. But let’s be honest. The guys are really more about having fun on stage. They’ll be headlining an early show at Kung Fu Necktie tonight so swing on by and get rowdy with the band and their fans. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7pm, $8, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman
