Lady Album Release Party at PhilaMOCA Oct. 20
Since their earliest inception, Kate Foust and the other members of Lady have time-warped us back to the good ole days with their vibrant mix of soulful blues and jazz. Each member of the quintet is classically trained, and they have previously collaborated with the likes of Toy Soldiers, Virtual Virgin, The Divine Lorraine, and many others. After an impressive debut EP the band set out to record its first full-length You & Me under Ropeadope with the help of Studio 4’s Phil Nicolo, and they’ll be celebrating its release at PhilaMOCA tonight by performing the whole album in its entirety and unveiling a few new songs. Lady will be joined by good pals Toy Soldiers who just hit Bloktoberfest and CMJ, and are getting ready to throwdown at The Note next week for the Halloween Hoedown with Hoots & Hellmouth. The Deli’s Featured Artist(s) Winners: Ecomog

We enjoy asking the artists that we interview about local acts that they are into. It’s sometimes a good way to discover underground artists that have been flying under our radar, which is how we discovered Ecomog. The crew made up of Entity, Epidemic, and Tonik aims to preserve the rich heritage of hip hop while also aspiring to help it to move forward. Such is the cycle and evolution of music. You can check out our interview with Ecomog HERE, or just swing by Millcreek Tavern this Friday, October 21 to really find out what they are all about.
Dragon King Opening for Unknown Mortal Orchestra at JB’s Oct. 19
Since starting out as a studio project between guitarist/songwriter Dominic Angelella and producer Ritz Reynolds in late 2010, Dragon King has evolved into the majestic indie quartet that they are today. And while their debut full-length Paragraph Nights comes closer and closer to being released, you’ll have a chance to experience what I am sure are the ever-evolving tunes in a live setting when they takeover the stage tonight at Johnny Brenda’s. I am sure the learned guitar licks of Angelella will mesh nicely with the mysteriously quirky genius of Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson. There should be plenty of attendees gettin’ down this evening. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Bill McThrill
Shaking Through w/ Creepoid

The new Shaking Through episode features one of our favorite bands Creepoid as well as some awesome folks who add so much to the Philly music scene! The project was curated by R5’s Sean Agnew. Kyle “Slick” Johnson (Wavves, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Rogue Wave, etc.) also was the guest producer, and provided his usual brand of comic relief. You can check out some video footage from the session and the fruits of their labor “Old Tree,” which is also available for free download, below. Enjoy!

Where Is My Mind?: Icebird’s rjd2 & Aaron Livingston
Icebird is the new project from rjd2 (a.k.a. Ramble John “RJ” Krohn) and Aaron Livingston (The Mean). They just released their debut full-length album The Abandoned Lullaby last week and wrapped up a mini-tour as a five-piece band in support of it with RJ pulling double duty opening and headlining. Icebird is also running a remix competition for their latest single “Charmed Life,” where you can win some neat prizes. (You can check out the deets for the contest HERE which ends at 11:59pm on October 31.) The friendly duo was nice enough to meet with us before their debut Philly performance this past Friday at Union Transfer. It was a fun interview where we found out some things that you probably didn’t know about the tandem like oddly what you might find RJ doing to unwind after a show or what song Aaron’s mom slapped the shit out of him for singing when he was little or even knowledge for your next trivial pursuit game like what chaff is. You can learn about all that and more in our interview with Icebird HERE.
