New Video: “Into Gold” (Acoustic) – Grandchildren

Posted on:

Check out the video of Grandchildren performing an acoustic version of new track called “Into Gold” on March 17, 2012 from SXSW. It was filmed by Philly-based Out of Town Films. Below is also a little something that they had to say about the session. You can catch Grandchildren live this Sunday at PhilaMOCA. Enjoy! (Photo by Sean Flannigan)

“We kind of fell in love with this session before it even happened. The room we shot in was in the midst of the beautiful Hilton Garden Inn, about twenty something floors up, and was ‘grand’ in every sense of the word. I should add that neither us nor the band were staying at the hotel. So despite an initial hesitation of whether someone would interrupt the session due to a noise disturbance, or lack of a legitimate reason to be in the hotel, to our surprise a few people even gathered around the ascending open balconies to watch and listen along.”

Cousin Brian Welcoming the Summer Weather at Emoda Gallery April 16

Posted on:

Tonight the Emoda Gallery will be hosting the garage punk and sweet harmonies of Cousin Brian, along with local hardcore act No Lessons Learned and DYING. Cousin Brian’s impressive debut full-length, appropriately titled First, originally surfaced in November 2011 and has since been reissued last month on vinyl via Mallrat Records, the brand new label launched by Slutever’s Nicole Snyder. The album features 11 tracks filled with irresistibly catchy guitar riffs, high-energy performances and surprisingly beautiful, feel good vocal harmonies. Their infectious up-tempo brand of garage rock and clean guitar sounds makes for a perfect soundtrack to this week’s summer-esque weather. On the darker side of the bill is No Lessons Learned. The West Philly-based 5-piece’s sound is reminiscent of the classic east coast hardcore of the 80s, with pummeling bass, aural-assaulting drumming, and loud distorted guitars all being played at break-neck speeds. Start your week right. Emoda Gallery, 302 Moore St., 8pm, $6, All Ages (Photo by Alexa Johnson) – Dan Brightcliffe

Clark Park Music & Art Fest Benefit at WCL April 15

Posted on:

As the seasons change the prospects of enjoying some quality music and park life during several festivals is upon us yet again. And Cloud Entertainment recently revealed that the 40+ year tradition of Clark Park Music & Art Fest is slated to come back on June 30. But before that, they’ll be throwing a special event at World Café Live tonight to raise funds for the festival. Even though the Dead Milkmen are still playing out in support of their first studio album in 16 years The King in Yellow, their acoustic crooning frontman Joe Jack Talcum is also going strong with his solo career. And tonight he’ll most likely be performing tunes from the latest split album that he dropped with Samuel Locke-Ward. Since Downtown Club recently finished recording their debut EP with Jeff Ziegler (Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs, etc.) they are more than ready to share their dark, dance-y synth-infused rock. With a new CD and 2 tours in the works, West Philly’s premier oddball folk collective On the Water will have plenty to pump you up for once they take the stage. And Jampa will also be laying down their flamenco bossa nova soul this evening. Come out and do your part to keep a West Philly tradition alive! World Café Live, 3025 Walnut St., 7pm, $7 + Fees, All Ages – Bill McThrill
