Free Download: “About That Life” – Diplo Feat. Jahan Lennon

Check out the new track from Diplo called “About That Life” featuring Jahan Lennon (a.k.a. ex-PO PO Jahan Zeb Malik)! The duo surprisingly channels a 60s/70s west coast mellow psych folk vibe (which we are seriously digging) for the recent release from The Jeffrees. The song is available for free download below. It also first appeared on Diplo’s mixtape series, AEIOU. Take a puff, and enjoy!

The Deli Philly’s Choice/Cuts: Norwegian Arms – “Easy a Lover Goes West”

Posted on:

We’re back with the second installment of our Choice/Cut session with Norwegian Arms. In this footage, you get an exclusive listen of their yet-to-be-released song “Easy a Lover Goes West” (which will appear on their upcoming album Wolf Like A Stray Dog). We don’t think that you’ll be able find it anywhere on the interweb. Well, in the age of iPhones and smartphones, there might be a poorly recorded version out there somewhere. But why would you want to suffer through that? And we surely don’t want you to either. Get down to some island vibes, and check out our interview with “Keith Birthday” and “Dr. Awkward” where they get a chance to discuss their love for “vintage” gear. Special thanks to the HotBox crew. Enjoy!

On the Water’s Rustic Musical Chemistry at JB’s Sept. 19

Posted on:

When a group of individuals assemble with the intent of performing and creating music that doesn’t focus on ego, but unlocks and reveals an internal message, something special happens. On the Water, who perform tonight at Johnny Brenda’s, is the type of folk band that appears to click on all cylinders because they’re simply playing what feels right and sounds good as a result. Fletcher VanVliet’s rangy ragged vocals are gut-wrenchingly endearing pairing naturally with the plethora of instruments that develops layers of sound – the individual pieces connecting and combining in a rustic musical chemistry. Johnny Brenda’s 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

The intimate setting has been great for making new friends and hanging out with old ones. Tonight we have a fun-filled evening with countrified indie pop darlings Arrah and the Ferns and the always entertaining, creative Jay Purdy from The Extraordinaires. Come out and join a bunch of good-hearted weirdos for a night full of good times and laughs!
