With reverb-soaked keys and lyrics delivered almost exclusively in wistful sighs, Vacationer is a band that literally wants nothing more than to help you chill out, which should be good for those who still have summer in their minds even though it officially ended last week. The project fronted by Kenny Vasoli travels far from the roots of his previous pop-punk and prog-rock bands The Starting Line and Person L, but he seems to be finding solace on his latest journey. However, it doesn’t mean that he’s completely turned his back on his past. Vasoli will be hitting the road soon with his compadres from The Starting Line for their Say It Like You Mean It 10th anniversary tour. But tonight Vacationer are coming to the Eraserhood, and headlining at Underground Arts with support from up-and-coming pop-rock outfit Cold Fronts, electro-dance duo City Rain, and DJ Les Professionnels. If you ever wondered what local dreamy-shoegaze two-piece Gypsy Death and You would sound like with a full band backing them, then tonight at Cha-Cha’Razzi is your chance to find out. The duo of Emily Cahill and Alex Wilson will be joined by some of their friends to fill out their sound for the celebration of their new release EP no. 2. You can preview a bit of the album by listening to the track “Ghosts” HERE, a catchy track made up of fuzzy guitars and soft dreamy vocals. So head down to South Philly for some “new songs and new merch” courtesy of Gypsy Death and You. Well, hopefully the weather gods will be kind to Chill Moody today. The West Philly hip hop artist will be putting on a free show at Love Park at noon. He’ll be joined by co-conspirators Beano and Hank McCoy as well as Band for Higher to perform Who Do You Love? in its entirety. The prediction is coin flip on whether it will rain or not. The mighty TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb are taking over Johnny Brenda’s tonight to celebrate the release of their long-awaited and most enjoyable sophomore full-length album Manufacturing Joy. The second floor of the much-beloved Fishtown music venue will be filled with the stench of alcohol and sweat seeping from the pores of the crowd there to get down to new and old favorite from the band’s catalogue. Marissa Lesnick’s siren-like vocals lure you into a mystical musical garden, while the music systemically entraps you in a whimsical daydream. It’s my final Tuesday Tune-Out at PhilaMOCA, and I’m not lying when I say that I’m surely going to get banged up tonight so come join me! We have great rockin’ lineup with up-and-coming local acts Vintage Kicks and Cousin Brian (and I’m hoping that they’re ready to party down with me). I also chose to screen one of my favorite documentaries, Don Letts’ Punk: Attitude. The film along with getting a chance to share local acts that I dig are the main reasons why I wanted to do a music and movie-themed event like Tuesday Tune-Out. I’ve had a great time getting to know the artists, attendees, and nice, dedicated folks at PhilaMOCA. I hope that they’ve had a good time too. Just a heads up to our readers that we’ll be back at the multipurpose space on Friday, October 26 for The Deli Philly’s Halloweeniversary Partay! Yes, we had such a great time last year at PhilaMOCA throwing our Halloween Partay, and since our anniversary falls in the same month, we decided to combine them and throw a serious rager. We’ll have more deets for you soon, but we already have some great acts confirmed that we are really looking forward to sharing with you.
