Vilebred Kickin’ Some Clown Ass at North Star Bar Nov. 7

Having grown up under the same roof with Kurt Vile, it’s pretty easy to pick out some of the sonic influences that filled their home. However, Sam Vile continues to step out from his older brother’s shadow and bask in his own light of experimental rock. (Hehe…I was sooooo tempted to make an awful metaphor which included TLC’s conjoined twins Abby and Brittany, but I decided to spare you the awkward read…you’re welcome.) With two promising releases already under Sam’s belt with his band Vilebred, the younger Vile is set to headline the North Star Bar tonight with enough solid material to make you forget about you know who on Matador Records. Come out with an open mind this evening, and I’m sure that you’ll be thoroughly entertained. After all, with lyrics like “I’m gonna grab me a clown, put its head into the ground, cause it’s habit…” how can you not be? (BTW: I HATE CLOWNS!) There’s something rather seductive and unnerving about the recordings of The Suicide Magnets, a.k.a. Wendy Jane Hyatt. With ominous guitar lines reminiscent of something that Kurt Cobain would compose alone in his bedroom on an acoustic guitar and vocals that cry for help yet attack with ferocity, Hyatt certainly separates herself from any female singer-songwriter on the local music scene. New Music Video: “Beyond Greenpoint” – Work Drugs

Here’s a new music video from Work Drugs for their latest single “Beyond Greenpoint.” It was produced by Marco Scago, and is meant to be a reminder to all of us “that there is a scary world outside the bubble that is ‘our world.’ There is more to life than the hipstamatic camera, the microblog, the bearish trust fund, the genetically perfected dog, the $7 coffee, or even the cherished fixed gear bike.” You can download the track for free HERE. Work Drugs have a new album titled Delta scheduled for release in December. They’ll also be performing next in Philly on December 8 at Ortlieb’s Lounge.

New Track: “Trinkets” – Eskimeaux

Eskimeaux, a.k.a. vocalist Gabrielle Smith and producer Benjamin Schurr – both formerly of Br’er, just premiered a new track called "Trinkets" via Prefix Magazine. The song will appear on their upcoming album, which will be released November 6 via Human Kindness Overflowing, a local non-profit record label run by Power Animal‘s Keith Hampson. A majority of the prceeds will go to Philabundance and funding future charitable projects through the label.

Idle Idols Waiting to Be Worshipped at PhilaMOCA Nov. 4

Youth takes center stage tonight at PhilaMOCA. Idle Idols bring the aggressive pissed off edge of punk rock and play it with an air of California-cool. While the songs are still focused in a high-energy down-hill “play it like it sounds” mentality, the band also does its due diligence in placing an emphasis on creating a crisp complete sound. Sam Roland and Andrew Migliore click in a united guitar front – both in following the direction from where one leads to where the other is going and also in showcasing the capabilities of an a intricate dual-guitar threat. Speaking of California, Cruiser, the solo exploits Andy States, takes that idea and works through it in a pop-rock direction that utilizes simple catchy grooves and punctual bursts of guitar that will have his songs echoing in your ears well into the upcoming week.
