After supposedly calling it quits in April 2011, Omar began to look alive again via Twitter, which led us to assume that a return was on its way. The pop-punk duo performed at the Cracker Factory last month as a full band/four-piece for the only time ever. Well, tonight Candice and Nick should be up to their old ways at The Fire as part of the bill for Great Red Spots’ record release show with The Love Club and Space Drugs. Omar will also be armed with a new song and merchandise so swing by and join in the celebration. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $5, 21+ (Photo by Ashley Catharine Smith) – Alexis V.

This evening, Philly Music Showcase continues their curating duties for Tuesday Tune-Out at PhilaMOCA. Set to make plenty of noise at the event will be muscular sounding South Philly punk outfit Point Breeze. They’ll be joined by all-female indie-pop trio Amanda X, featuring Cat Park from Bandname. There will also be a screening of 1994 indie cult road film Half-Cocked after the performances. Now, you’ve got a place to hideout from the rainy day blues. New Music Video: “Wild Night” – DRGN King
DRGN King premiered a new music video for the track "Wild Night" yesterday via Paper Magazine, which featured (obviously) a wild night roaming around beneath the Christmas lights in South Philly, devouring of turkey legs chased with Natty Bo and PBR, a milky green-ish concoction, and some of the local music community having a damn good time. It was directed by Dan King. If you happen to be down in Austin, you can catch DRGN King performing at our Deli showcase sponsored by Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie on Friday, March 15 at the West 6th Street Block Party.
Photo Recap: Work Drugs, Night Panther & Cruiser at KFN
There was a most excellent sold-out locals only show this past Saturday at Kung Fu Necktie with Work Drugs, Night Panther and Cruiser. All three acts performed fantastic sets – complete with a “Happy Birthday” serenade from the nocturnal felines and an “Ernest goes to…” album giveaway. Cruiser encouraged the rowdiness to commence by having the crowd shout out submissions for a chance to get a copy of their debut self-titled EP. Drum roll please – and the winner was: “Ernest goes down on your mom.” Way to always keep it classy Philly! You can check out our photos from the fun night HERE.

The 2nd Annual Frankford Ave. Freeze-Out at JB’s March 10
2012 was a banner year for Little Baby’s Ice Cream as they went from the little tricycle (“that could”) trekking around and serving their creamy goods at events throughout Philly in spring and summer to opening up their official World Headquarters next to Pizza Brain. You also have to give it up to the creative crew for shocking the world with their disturbing viral videos. To raise funds towards opening their headquarters last year as well as some other projects, Little Baby’s hosted the 1st ever Frankford Ave. Freeze-Out, which saw members of its team stepping up and performing as Bruce Springsteen cover band Bruce Ice Cream and the Freeze Street Band. Tonight they make it an annual tradition at Johnny Brenda’s with a repeat performance of The Boss’ finest tunes. There will also be a set by Debbie Kerri & The Kung Fu Girls performing the much-beloved music of Blondie. And the evening will feature likely cameos from some of the ice cream maestros’ musician friends, the magic of David Darwin, DJ sets by Broadzilla, tasty slices from Pizza Brain, and more as well. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford St., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Bill McThrill
Get Movin’ w/Work Drugs & Night Panther at KFN March 9
If an evening of seductive synth-laden music entices you, Kung Fu Necktie’s twin billing is right up your alley. With their latest EP Amore, appropriately released on Valentine’s Day, Work Drugs continues their trend of producing velvety grooves that take advantage of clean echoing whisper-style vocals, topping them off an airy foundation while incorporating horns to add a bright jazzy touch. Night Panther, an equally dance-friendly quartet, will also grace the stage. Bringing a sound that runs the full spectrum from an intense synth-and-bass-driven smack, to an airy vocal lead of smooth grooving pop. Night Panther creates an extremely energetic fluid vibe. Inspiring one’s inner animal to go out on the prowl. So, get to KFN, and get movin’. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7:30, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita
