The Deli Philly’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner: Maitland

Posted on:

It’s great time for the music scene in Philly. We’ve been getting an influx of talented transplants over the last few years. However, the city certainly doesn’t feel saturated yet. And it’s always a treat to come across young musicians like our recent Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner, Maitland, who have come from Williamsport, PA, to remind us how lucky we are to have such a supportive community. Please check out our interview with the indie-folk duo of Josh Hines and Jeff Mach HERE.

Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band Residency Continues w/Support From Tin Horses & Mikele Edwards at Ortlieb’s June 13

Posted on:

Oh man – it’s dark, and it looks like a hard rain’s gonna fall all day. But for those who refuse to stay trapped in your place, head on over to Ortlieb’s tonight to catch the continuation of Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band’s residency. Forsyth’s new backing band is made up of guitarist Paul Sukeena (Spacin’), drummer Steven Urgo (ex-War on Drugs) and bassist Peter Kerlin, and they provide a wonderful backdrop for his masterful guitar work. This evening, they’ll be bringing along Tin Horses, the bluesy psych rock project from Purling Hiss bassist Kiel Everett that travels along the dusty trail of American music history, and Arc In Round’s Mikele Edwards will be laying down some entrancingly haunting, ambient soundscapes. The combination of the supporting acts should be quite fitting for Forsyth’s self-described “cosmic Americana” tunes. Take shelter with them from the storm – it’ll be a great way to ride it out! Ortlieb’s Lounge, 847 N. 3rd St., 9pm, $6, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

New Video: “Untitled” (Out Of Town Films) – Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler

Posted on:

Check out the lovely new video from Out Of Town Films of Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler performing “Untitled”! Below are a few words about the session from the production crew.

This session with Mary Lattimore had been months in the making. We first visited her home last summer to film Quilt in her backyard then we visited a few months later to shoot with her former roommate Daniel Bachman. All the while, we kept talking about linking up for a session with her and her harp.

Fast forward to several months later and a night out at the El Bar in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. We ran into Mary and made a pact to finally get together for a session. A few emails later and the recruitment of her friend, Jeff Zeigler, we found ourselves back at her home. This time we were there for her and her "Untitled" performance. Enjoy.

The Debut of The Slicks at Underground Arts June 12

Posted on:

The gifted brother-sister combination of Eric and Julie Slick on drums and bass is a familiar one. However, they’ve both been busy on separate coasts and traveling around the world working on other projects since the days of playing together in the Adrian Belew Trio. Well, tonight the siblings will be reuniting at Underground Arts for a rare performance and the debut of The Slicks. I shouldn’t have to tell you that this sounds pretty badass. Just come and hear for yourself this evening! They’ll also be joined by local world music/jazz-infused prog outfit iNFiNiEN and South Jersey psych rockers Out of the Beardspace. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $7, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

Ton-Taun Ready to Impress at Silk City June 11

Posted on:

Ton-Taun impressed our writers from other Deli cities when they appeared in the Open Submission phase of our most recent year-end poll, and continued on to become the runner-up in the Fans’/Readers’ segment. The former Lancaster outfit now based in Philly put out their latest release Get Well in November 2012, which is certainly deserved of a listen to if you haven’t already or a revisit. Ton-Taun will be performing tonight at Silk City alongside Deli favorites The Districts and Grammy-nominated artist Ben O’Neill. Silk City, 435 Spring Garden St., 9pm, $7, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

Tuesday Tune-Out w/Kite Party & Three Man Cannon at PhilaMOCA June 11

Posted on:

This month’s Tuesday Tune-Out at PhilaMOCA is curated by the hard-working DIY promoters The Guild. This evening’s show will feature acoustic sets by Kite Party and Three Man Cannon. The former released the LP Baseball Season in 2011, which got the reissue treatment last year on vinyl via Animal Style Records. The latter consists of members from Tigers Jaw, who announced earlier this year that they’ll be disbanding after their U.S. summer tour. Three Man Cannon most recently dropped a split effort in February with Lee Corey Oswald that is a joint release from Black With Sap and Stereophondon Records. I hear that tonight’s movie is a tossup between The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Joe Dirt, which are both good flicks and definitely worth sticking around for after the band performances. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $5, All Ages – Alexis V.
