Watery Love Performing w/Purling Hiss/Birds of Maya’s Mike Polizze on Bass at KFN July 23

Posted on:

Rock outfit Watery Love certainly carries a lot of star power in the local underground music community. Fronted by former Clockcleaner and mastermind behind Richie Records/TestosterTunes blog Richie Charles, the band has already attracted Espers songbird Meg Baird to be its original drummer before leaving for the fleece-weather climate of San Francisco and Kurt Vile to volunteer to come in for a tryout on bass. And just last week, Richie tweeted an Instagram pic with the caption – “Another over-qualified musician-type agrees to play bass guitar for Watery Love.” Well, that photo was of Purling Hiss/Birds of Maya schredder Mike Polizze. So if you’ve ever wondered what Polizze would sound like dropping bass bombs, then head on over to Kung Fu Necktie tonight where Watery Love will be joined by Taiwan Housing Project (ex-Harry Pussy, ex-Little Claw) and No Bails. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Alexis V.

Harsh Vibes & Psychic Teens Hosting We Are Hex at Teri’s July 22

Posted on:

It’s going to get really loud tonight in the Italian Market at Teri’s when locals Harsh Vibes and Psychic Teens plug in. Well, I’m thankful that Harsh Vibes are still playing at all after the tale that was shared with me about the band’s first night on tour ever with Creepoid. (Ha…maybe there are times when you should just say “no” to marijuana.) Luckily, the elder statesmen/woman were around to help defuse the situation. Harsh Vibes has a new 4-song EP entitled Dead Collective Soul available via Dirty Pillows. And if you haven’t already yet, you can pre-order Psychic Teens’ forthcoming album COME (which is slated to drop on August 13 via local hardcore label SRA Records) HERE. They’ll be hosting Indianapolis coldwave foursome We Are Hex. Teri’s, 1126 S. 9th St., 8pm, $5, 21+ (Harsh Vibes Photo by Kevin Horn; Psychic Teens Photo by Greg C) – Alexis V.

Dr. Dog premiered a new song called "The Truth" and a lyric music video earlier today via Spin Magazine. They also announced a release date for their forthcoming full-length album entitled B-Room, which was produced once again by Nathan Sabatino, who worked on 2012’s Be The Void. However, Sabatino and the band left the shores of their beloved recording space Meth Beach for a new one in an old Clifton Heights, PA silversmith mill. The LP will be available October 1 via Anti-. Nothing Opening for Swirlies at JB’s July 21

Posted on:

Moody shoegazers Nothing, known for sweeping soundscapes, are set to share the stage tonight with the legendary Swirlies, replacing Arc In Round, who had to drop off the bill at the last minute. Brooding and empathetic, tracks like “If Only” and “The Dives (Lazarus in Ashes)” with its nearly instrumental arcs that bleed into stirring vocals, Nothing’s precise instrumentation comprised of percussive hums, fuzzed-out riffs, and haunting vocals keep listeners’ attention in anticipation of their soon to be released LP Guilty of Everything. Crafting songs inspired by dead poets, childhood friends, and the complexities of the human condition, the band’s live set, much like their discography, can be expected to be emotively and audibly shaking and equally memorable – undoubtedly, a well-fitted prelude to an evening with the Swirlies. Get swept away! Johnny Brenda’s. 1201 N. Frankford Ave., $12, 8pm, 21+ – Dianca Potts
