Tuesday Tune-Out w/Modern Baseball & Radiator Hospital’s Sam Cook-Parrott at PhilaMOCA Oct. 8

Posted on:

Tonight Drexel University’s WKDU continues their month-long curation of Tuesday Tune-Out at PhilaMOCA with a great lineup of up-and-comers featuring Modern Baseball and Radiator Hospital‘s Sam Cook-Parrott. Modern Baseball is a young, local four-piece that will actually make you happy about the resurgence of emo/pop-punk happening in music these days. Their tunes are uber catchy, which made it not so surprising that their LP Sports received the reissue treatment from Run For Cover Records. And you should already know how I feel about Sam Cook-Parrott’s brilliant lyrics and tunes. Let’s just hope that he didn’t forget that he’s performing at Tuesday Tune-Out this evening and schedule himself for work again like last time. Yeah, I showed up for that one. Both acts will be performing acoustic sets so be prepared to get intimate. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $5, All Ages – Q.D. Tran

New Video: Double Decker Music Series: Episode 1 – Charles Cohen & Birdie Busch

Posted on:

Here’s a new video from the inaugural Double Decker Music Series (October 1, 2013), an intimate mobile concert experience and city tour on an open-top double-decker bus, which was hosted by Sebastian Petsu and featured Charles Cohen and Birdie Busch. It ran into technical difficults along the way, but that only addded to the experience. Special thanks to videographer Bob Sweeney for sharing his footage of this unique event.

Avery Rosewater Opening for Elf Power at The Boot & Saddle Oct. 6

Posted on:
Playing an opening set tonight at The Boot & Saddle is Avery Rosewater, featuring lead singer Julien Rossow-Greenberg (of Arches fame). The band will be laying down some devastatingly catchy pop-rock. I’m especially hoping to hear a few new tunes off their upcoming album, which is expected to be released this fall. The first single of this impending project, “Two Bridges,” recently hit the internet, and its mature and poppy sound left me wanting more. Also performing is the grungier half marching band/half indie mini-orchestra, Folklore. Fronted by Jimmy Hughes, who actually got his start in Athens, GA performing with the evening’s headliner. The jangling alt-rockers, Elf Power, have just announced October tour dates with Neutral Milk Hotel as well as news of a new album Sunlight on the Moon also prepped for release this month. The Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Weekend Warrior, October 4 – 6

Howdy!

So it shouldn’t be hard to figure out where The Deli Philly staff will be this weekend. On Saturday, we’ll be dressed in our finest vintage threads and celebrating our 5th anniversary with a major bash at PhilaMOCA. We are truly honored to have the sexified sounds of Night Panther, the jangly, power-pop goodness of Literature, and the wit and warmth of indie popsters The Homophones to help us throw down for this momentous occasion. We’ll also be pre-gaming with a cocktail hour before the music starts, and there will be prizes like passes to a R5 show (sold out or not) awarded for the best vintage outfit that we come across that evening. Special thanks to our event sponsors Art in the Age, NarragansettTito’s VodkaSpodee Wine and La Colombe for the tasty beverages. They will be happily consumed.

BTW: I just wanted to say that it’s been so much fun and an honor to watch, cover and be a part of the wonderful things that have been going on these last five years in Philly’s indie music community. I also wanted to thank all the writers, photographers and readers of the site who have contributed to making The Deli Philly what it is today. It could have never been done without you. I came to working with The Deli Magazine as a fan, and I have always thought of it as a fanzine – something for all to take part in. I am proud that tradition still continues to this day. It’s been amazing getting to know many of the talented and generous folks in the trenches helping to make a positive difference locally, which in turn, (I hope) will spread worldwide. I am excited to see/hear what the next five years will bring to our music community.

With so much love!
