Where Is My Mind?: Buried Beds’ Brandon Beaver

Posted on:

With their debut release 2005’s Empty Rooms, Buried Beds caught the attention of critics and fans alike with its delicately lovely melodies and enchanting vocals led by Eliza Jones. However, its melancholic veneer didn’t creatively represent what the band members were feeling inside creatively, leaving us with about a half-decade gap before returning with a playful, upbeat new sound found on Tremble the Sails (our July 2010 Album of the Month). As Buried Beds get ready to celebrate the release of their latest LP In Spirit (Devinyl) at The Boot & Saddle tonight, they seem to be a seasoned group in touch and still fascinated with what they are producing, while effortlessly coming into their own creative space. We caught up with Brandon Beaver, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and one half of the “warehouse duo” that later became known as “Buried Beds” to talk about the evolution of the band, their new album, lessons learned and much more, which you can check out HERE.

Birds of Maya Opening for The Meat Puppets at Underground Arts Oct. 10

Posted on:
Tonight marks a seldom opportunity to catch a ride on the full-bore garage-psych steamroller known as Birds of Maya. The incendiary trio, which spawned Purling Hiss and Spacin’, naturally lock into raunchy grooves – a marriage of nasty heady guitar solos, thudding bass lines and smacking percussion that transform into jams of orbital proportion. The moody hypnotic electro-pop of Minneapolis’ Enemy Planes will join them opening for the old school alt-rockers and Kirkwood family affair The Meat Puppets. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 7pm, $17, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Photo Recap: The Deli Philly’s 5th Anniverary Bash w/Night Panther, Literature & The Homophones at PhilaMOCA

Posted on:
I just want to thank The Deli staff, my old friend Jersey Dan, the good folks at PhilaMOCA, Night Panther, Literature, The Homphones, our sponsors (Art in the Age, Narragansett, Tito’s Vodka, Spodee Wine and La Colombe) and all who attended for helping to make The Deli Philly’s 5th Anniversary Bash such a magical evening. It was truly the best event to date that I’ve had the honor of putting together, and I will always well up with joy remembering back on that day/night when all the stars aligned as they did and the evening became a crazy blur of happy faces. It was inspiring to say the least. I look forward to doing it again with you next year. And since we had so much fun, don’t be surprised if a Deli-curated music showcase pops up again this spring. Please check out the beautiful photos from the evening’s performances HERE! (Photo by Zach Blum) – Q.D. Tran
