Batty Opening for Bleeding Rainbow at JB’s Nov. 15

Posted on:
As Batty kicks off a rather intriguing evening at Johnny Brenda’s, the collective sound manifested by the trio is full of promise. There is a skuzzy-grimy garage/punk feel, the kind that drips sweat and oozes with an internal energy that pushes its way public through the performance. Setting the tone with raunchy jagged guitar work and solidifying it with the snap and pop backend and vocals that are a smooth, calm, guiding element, while remaining aggressive when the moment calls for it. This group finds a balance between expansive, stormy expression and jumpstarting quick-hitters that flash. They will be opening for Western Massachusetts all-girl post-punk outfit Potty Mouth, while the cosmic noise-pop of Bleeding Rainbow with their supreme blend of stacked industrial distortion and soothsaying vocals headline the show. Just by taking a look at the covers for their last couple of releases, you can tell that Big Tusk have a sense of humor. That also holds true after reading our Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner interview with them, which you can do so HERE. And the trio also might have some daddy issues, or they sure love him a lot. Sorry Mom. Big Tusk will be performing next in Philly on Saturday, November 23 at The Boom Room.

Delco Pacers Record Release Show at MilkBoy Philly Nov. 14

Posted on:
With the release of their full-length debut Stereo Streets slated for November 19, Delco Pacers headline a record release event tonight at Milkboy Philly. The trio delivers songs that have a snowball effect: Momentum gathering from Jonathan Pitts earnest vocal tone spinning memorable mind-etching lyrics. The instrumentation has a free-flowing yet purposeful movement. At times, that movement has a casual rolling autumnal acoustic feel, and at others, it ramps up pushing the intensity; the percussion pops in a punchy manner, and the bass quickens its thumps building toward a crescendo that correlates with the lyrical context. This blend of relatable story-driven songwriting with an enthusiastic pop-rock sensibility makes Delco Pacers a band that is easy/natural to gravitate toward. They will be joined on the bill by the folk-rock Americana of Morning River Band, while the “honest” indie folk-rock of The Naked Sun opens the night. Milkboy Philly 1100 Chestnut St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita
