Revolution, I Love You Release Show at North Star Bar Nov. 22

Posted on:

Electronic indie rock duo Revolution, I Love You have went on an ambitious journey of mastering, fine tuning, and crowdsourcing their pinnacle EP Atlantic Ocean, which is set to officially drop early next year. The adventures have included them filming a DIY music video, doing their first album in five years to feature guitar solos, launching a Kickstarter campaign for additional album funding, and previewing the album through promising singles like “A Sound That Rattles All Our Hearts At Once.” As the band nears the final stop of the journey, they have much to celebrate, and that’s what they’ll be doing tonight at North Star Bar with a release party for their latest single. And they’ll be joined by friends City Rain, who are getting ready to release a new song of their own, W.C. Lindsay, and Your Ghost. North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 9pm, $8, All Ages – Bill McThrill

Banned Books Organize Chaos at JB’s Nov. 21

Posted on:
Matthew Dermond and Zane Kanevsky comprise the super-duo (previously power trio) Banned Books, who are serving as the opening act tonight at Johnny Brenda’s. Banned Books hits in an unconventional manner, coming at you from a point or angle that is unexpected/surprising and you may even need to take a moment to react to, but once the momentary adjustment is made, the appreciation begins. There is a distinct noise-groove oriented sound punctuated with percussion and a menacing electronic/guitar presence that creates a jammed-packed sense of organized chaos. Embrace the strange and quickly the sonic jigsaw puzzle gains meaning. A pair of Brooklyn-oriented artists will follow them. The groove-generating psych-pop Zula will be followed by the exploratory experimentations of former Deli NYC print cover boys Celestial Shore, fresh off the release of their debut LP 10x via Hometapes. The sugarcoated Andy Moholt-fronted psych extravaganza of Laser Background closes out an evening dedicated to exploring the possibilities. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Kate Faust Opening for Basia Bulat at The Boot & Saddle Nov. 20

Posted on:
After stepping out from behind her former moniker Lady, a throwback jazz/soul act, Kate Faust has transformed into a sultry electro-pop songbird on her latest EP Crucial Companion. Inspired by the songwriting of Bjork and Kate Bush (and I also hear a bit of St. Vincent), I can easily see her melting hearts with each performance. Faust will be opening this evening at The Boot & Saddle for Canadian singer-songwriter Basia Bulat, who has done her fair share of melting of hearts with her earnest, soulful vocals and poignant lyrics. These talented ladies are sure to make for an unforgettable night of music. The Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Maggie Grabmeier

New The THANGS LP Available for Streaming, Purchase & Planting

Posted on:

We first learned about The THANGS a few years back when they were nominated for The Deli Philly’s year-end Best Emerging Artist(s) Poll by one of our knowledgeable jurors. The enigmatic production duo just released a fabulous, mind-blending LP of psychedelic hip-hop beats entitled Wedodo, which you can listen to in its entirety below. The record was released via homgrown electronic music indie label Data Garden, and there is available for purchase a rad limited-edition run of music seed-paper albums that you can plant and watch grow into blue Lobelias – really way too cool.
