New Music Video: “Loot My Body” – Man Man

Posted on:

Man Man just premiered a new lyrics music video over at The A.V. Club for the track "Loot My Body," which contains a lot of great tour footage. They’ll also be heading on the road again soon keeping them quite busy through February. Unfortunately, no Philly dates on the schedule yet which isn’t surprising since they already did a two-night run for Halloween at Union Transfer followed by a more intimate show at Underground Arts on their last trek around the country in support of their most excellent LP On Oni Pond.

This weather has us feeling a little doom and gloom today so Ryshon Jones‘ new single "American Dreamless" is helping us to relieve some that angst. Or maybe it’s making us feel worse. Either way, it’s a standout from the local spitter’s latest fifteen-track release Hope Is A Dangerous Thing, which you can download for free HERE.

Open Call for Data Garden-curated Force Field Project!

Posted on:

We know that there are plenty of creative folks who read The Deli. The always innovative Data Garden is curating a music + multimedia event for Force Field Project, an annual festival showcasing experimental audio, dance and sculptural art in Philly’s forgotten neighborhoods (using art to call attention to the often overlooked, abandoned places). The showcase will take place in a huge warehouse, and Data Garden has put out an open call for ideas to fill the space. For more info about the installation and how you can submit your vision, please check out the video below, then go HERE. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2014.

Cruiser Signs to The Windish Agency

Posted on:

Congrats to Cruiser for signing to The Windish Agency, who is also home to Philly favorites like The War on Drugs and Vacationer as well as Animal Collective, Yeasayer and tUnE-yArDs just to name a very few! Well, it’s not really surprising that they impressed the booking powerhouse with the strength of their pop gem "Kidnap." We’re guessing that our prediction of hearing the track in movies and commercials will be coming soon. You can catch Cruiser performing live in Philly this Wednesday, January 15 at Kung Fu Necktie.

Kite Party Opening for Porches at Golden Tea House Jan. 11

Posted on:
At its root, music is often an expression of thought and emotion. Kite Party is a band that doesn’t attempt to mask this process. Rather. They expose and embrace it, creating a brand of pop-punk dripping with blood sweat and tears. Incorporating a conscience pulsing percussion/bass backend with precision-placed keys and guitar work that, at times, is the riff-generating table-setter, and at others, is that final step in an elevating solo. Steered by Russell Edling’s half-spoken/sung emotive vocal style, Kite Party evokes raw unadulterated feelings with a polished finish. Headlining the evening will be eclectic New York outfit Porches, whose latest record Slow Dance in the Cosmos finds the group touching down on a full spread of musical landing spots. Porches can set down almost anywhere – from groove-rocking psychedelics to subtlety smooth, ironed-out electro-beats, all growing out of a foundation of thought-provoking folk-anchored lyrical depths. Golden Tea House, (Please email goldenteahouse42069@gmail.com for more info.), $7, 7:30pm , All Ages – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, Jan. 10 – 12

Posted on:
It’s pretty amazing to watch how the various communities within the Philly music scene have been progressing over the last few years. In the chiptune community, you really can’t talk about what is happening locally in that genre without mentioning 8static. The monthly chip music event is returning this Saturday to the North Star Bar with a lot to celebrate. The evening will also double as Cheap Dinosaurs’ release show for their new album Triangle Trash. Started by Dino Lionetti, the group has evolved to become a collaborative effort by the 8static family, consisting of Lionetti (composer/programming/synths), Danny Tarng (baritone guitar), Patrick “Bucky” Todd (drums), Joey Mariano (guitar/circuit bending /synth), Paul Weinstein (bass), and Daniel Davis (guitar). They’ll be bringing in former Philly native and now Phoenix-based chip-hopper Mega Ran, Sacramento’s Auxcide, and Rochester, NY’s SBThree will be providing the visuals for this 8-bit freak-out. North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman
