Here’s a sexy new track from electro-R&B/soul crew Worshyper, who’s "Got Your Back." New Creepoid EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Ugh…this rainfall is pretty damn ridiculous today. What are we Seattle?! Luckily, I’ve been spending the day hiding out inside and catching up on things that I’ve missed while on vacation. Record Store Day was one of them, and it makes perfect sense that Creepoid‘s new EP Wet (Graveface Records) is my soundtrack for this soggy, dreary day of a mess. You can still stream the whole record over at Alt Press.

St. James & The Apostles Close Out Month-long Residency at Ortlieb’s April 30

Posted on:

The trio of St. James & The Apostles close out their month-long Wednesday night residency at Ortlieb’s this evening. The group takes an all-out blood, sweat, and tears approach to each performance, playing an inspired gritty blend of soulful blues-rock with psychedelic accents. The mix of smooth grooves, propelling organ, raunchy guitar licks and earnest, pulled-from-the-gut vocals are a concoction that seems to catch fire on stage. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Cayetana, Radiator Hospital & More Make Waiting Enjoyable at The Fire April 29

Posted on:

Nick Fanelli and the Guild crew have been building a home for the ever-growing Philly pop-punk scene in DIY spaces around town like Golden Tea House as well as more legitimate venues like The Fire. This evening at the Girard Avenue watering hole, you’ll find the self-taught, all-female trio Cayetana, who has been all abuzz since signing to Tiny Engines and releasing the uber-catchy single "Hot Dad Calendar." And while we patiently wait for the group’s upcoming full-length, the wait becomes more enjoyable when mixed in with the poetic croons of Radiator Hospital‘s Sam Cook-Parrott as well as Salinas labelmates All Dogs and West Chester rockers NONA. The Fire, 412 W. Girard. Ave., 7pm, $7, All Ages – Alexis V.

Free Download: “Unkept” – Power Animal

Posted on:

We’re huge fans of Power Animal, a.k.a. Keith Hampson, who has performed multiple times at our anniversary parties and Deli-curated showcases. He bravely just posted a piece over at Impose, about his struggles, with Tourette syndrome, depression, generalized anxiety disorder and ADHD, and how he copes with mental illness on a daily basis. We are also very happy to hear that he is doing better, and has been working on a whole new album. It’s been way too long that the world has gone without a new Power Animal recording, and his latest track "Unkept" certainly didn’t disappoint – so dope! The powerful, glitched-out number was written a few months ago during a spell of bedridden illness. Hampson will be returning to the stage this Friday, May 2 at Bourbon & Branch opening for former Power Animal bandmates Worshyper and local dance-pop outfit Dream Safari.

Edison Back w/a New Lineup at KFN April 27

Posted on:
After a yearlong hiatus, Edison returns with a performance at Kung Fu Necktie. The Michael James Murray/Alexander Savoth pairing has expanded to include Neighborhood Choir’s Bennett Daniels on bass and seasoned vet Chris Giraldi behind the kit. The group is unveiling new material that, if shares the characteristics of previous works, will bring an air of peaceful catharsis enlisting a spacey lightness, allowing the mind to momentarily shed the stressors and enjoy an alternative daydreaming state. Marc Neibauer will also be headlining with a blend of casually melodic tunes that use jagged distorted guitar elements to expose a darker underlying reality. Kung Fu Necktie 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $5, 21+ – Michael Colavita
