Hound Opening for JEFF The Brotherhood & Diarrhea Planet at Underground Arts Oct. 11

Raunchy guitar loaded with a neo-‘70’s rock, all-in battering ram musical arsenal that sticks with you the whole way through delivering memorable instrumental forays along the way. Perry Shall-led hard-rocking trio Hound, whose latest record Out of Time will be available as a physical LP on November 28 via SRA Records (listen to the group’s new single "Little One" HERE), will serve as the opening act to a rad evening of jams at Underground Arts. Virginia transplants turned Philly residents Left & Right, who delivered a new record Five Year Plan last month, have a sound that incorporates a loose casual rock vibe with a knack for accelerating the intensity at key moments and searing away. The show will be headlined by rock ‘n’ roll heavyweights JEFF The Brotherhood and Diarrhea Planet (for whom the multi-talented Shall has designed album covers and worked with in many aspects over the years). RiverCity Festival Rain or Shine at Penn Treaty Park Oct. 11

Penn Treaty Park has one last dose of exciting outdoor action when it hosts its 7th Annual RiverCity Festival today to benefit the Fishtown Neighbors Association. And it will feature over 100 local art and food vendors selling their goods within the park, as well as plenty of family-friendly activities like Tangle Arts Movement and the Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels. There will be libations from the likes of Saint Benjamin Brewing and Philly Homebrew Outlet. However, the main attraction is the huge helping of local music happening throughout the day that includes a special headlining performance by Matt Pond. American Diamond Recordings will be well-represented when The Lawsuits perform songs from their latest Tumbled, TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb deliver tracks from their most recent EP KONG, and Levee Drivers preview what they’ve been working on in the studio for their upcoming album. The rest of the festival lineup will be rounded out by Pine Barons, Ginger Coyle, and Katie Barbato. Weekend Warrior, October 10 – 12

While somewhat relatively new to the local music scene, you’ll recognize the members of Divers through the many contributions that they’ve made with the likes of Buried Beds, Birdie Busch, The Weeds, and many Philly groups. However, when the unit comes together, they form a melodic and soulful rock quartet that has lush lyrics and multi-layered instrumentals. The band recently recorded their debut album at Turtle Studios, and our halfway through their goal of crowdsourcing funds for their release via Pledge Music. Tonight will be a great opportunity to get to know the band while they headline at Johnny Brenda’s, and it will also be a good chance to get reacquainted with the vibrant and chaotic experimental pop music of Purples (ex-Teeth). And while Satellite Hearts have been doing an excellent job of being the backing band for Ali Wadsworth, this evening will be their chance to shine on their own, bringing their youthful brand of psych rock to the table. St. James & The Apostles Record Release Show at Ortlieb’s Oct. 10

Fast-paced, acid-tinged rockers St. James & The Apostles have been known to add plenty rhythm and blues swagger and biblical psych to their music through their heart-thumping drums, melodious keyboards, stoner guitar riffs, and gang vocals. But the trio takes that combination to the extreme with their latest album Via Dolorosa, especially when you add in guest backing vocals by the sultry and soulful Ang Bocca of Ang & the Damn Band. The wholly unholies celebrate their latest release tonight at Ortleib’s, where they’ll be selling 50 special signed and numbered white vinyl copies and jamming with a number of surprise special guests. New Little Big League LP Available for Streaming

By now, it’s starting to feel like commonplace seeing Philly acts get picked up by well-respected Boston label Run For Cover Records. Their latest full-length acquisition comes from Little Big League, whose LP Tropical Jinx is slated for release next week on October 14, but you can currently listen to the album in its entirety over at The A.V. Club. They’ll also be celebrating its release in Philly on Friday, November 7 at Johnny Brenda’s.

Littler Opening for Mannequin Pussy at KFN Oct. 9

Littler (formerly known as Calamity Jane) is part of a four-headed garage-punk lineup tonight at Kung Fu Necktie. With their debut EP Get A Life due out this Saturday (digitally on Monday and tape format via Number4Door). The former Deli Featured Artist(s) Poll Winners fuse an honest lyrical approach with an aggressive yet accessible pop-punk appeal yielding that pissed but pleasing sound. Tonight, they’ll be joined by gritty pop-punks the Pussy Dogs, as well as the noise-punk experiment known as Mannequin Pussy, whose new LP Gypsy Pervert was released last month. Suburban Living Opening for CRUISR at Boot & Saddle Oct. 8

The last few months for Wesley Bunch, a.k.a. Suburban Living, has been a whirlwind pace, signing to PaperCup Music (who plan on releasing his self-titled album on January 27, 2015), moving from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Philadelphia, and assembling a new backing band. He’s been busy to say the least, and tonight, Suburban Living makes its Philly debut as locals at Boot & Saddle. The band’s latest single “New Strings” captures an up-tempo synth/percussive-propelled sound with serrated guitar providing a little edge. They will be opening for local dance-inducing, high-energy outfit Dream Safari and headliners CRUISR, whose recent label release All Over (Vagrant) is a flash of vibrant refreshing pop-rock. It always seems like smooth sailin’ when it comes to writing and recording music for Philly yacht rockers Work Drugs. They just dropped their latest twelve-track LP Runaways, which you can stream and purchase below. It’s their tenth album in a little less than three years, and was recorded during a summer hiatus on a trip to Marseille, France in 2012.

We are very excited to announce The Deli Philly’s 6th Anniversary Party, which will also be a celebration of our favorite holiday – Halloween, so start getting your costumes ready! If you’ve ever attended any of our showcases, then you should know that we like to throwdown, and on Saturday, October 25 at PhilaMOCA, that’s just what we intend to do in a BIG way. Co-headlining the evening will be our old pals and beloved psychedelic groove-making machines Grimace Federation, and they’ll be joined by one of Philly’s finest, rising hip-hop stars S.T.S., a.k.a. Sugar Tounge Slim. We’ll also have more surprises in store for the evening so you better be ready for one seriously fun, debaucherous night.
