Lightninging Strikes Again at Boot & Saddle Feb. 12
“Jesus Christ of the City,” the first single from local quartet Lightninging‘s upcoming LP The God of Sun & Tuesdays is a song that intoxicatingly embraces. As the guitar sets a wandering path, Greg O’Neill’s vocals offer an insiders eye-in-the-sky perspective. Then, the walls inside the room begin to shake as the vocals reach back and the instrumentation truly gear up and reach out screaming in unison and demonstrating internal strength and emotion while flexing in a controlled torrent of sound. Comprised of O’Neill, Mark Cruttenden (whom both perform in Baroque-pop outfit Tutlie) and the backend combo of Matt Williams and Greg Foran (who also team up in Static Mountain), the group’s heavy melodic brand of psychedelic rock makes their resurgence a welcomed return. Tonight’s Boot & Saddle lineup also features the heart-pounding four-piece of A Brood of Vipers and the grease-slicked, stick-to-your-skin bluesy trio of Reverend Mantis. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

New Music Video: “The Woman That Loves You” – Japanese Breakfast
Little Big League’s Michelle Zauner has released a new music video, under her solo project Japanese Breakfast, for “The Women That Loves You,” a song found on American Sound. The video connects a series of clips from films such as Chungking Express, La Collectionneuse and Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell, interspersed with original backyard footage shot with Cordell Stetson. Ticker-taping lyrics serve as a guide while the snapshots from various scenes illuminate the mood/context. You can catch Japanese Breakfast on Friday, March 20 at Great Indoors on a bill that also includes The Spirit of the Beehive, Blowdryer and Eskimeaux. (Photo by Brian Johnson)

Bunch and Green connected, and ended up shooting the footage on Dead Horse Bay in New York. Below is the result of their collaboration. Suburban Living living will be performing tomorrow evening at The Fire for the Northern Liberties Winter Music Fest.

Dogs on Acid w/The Spirit of the Beehive at Boot & Saddle Feb. 11
After releasing their debut tracks via Ranch Records, local four-piece Dogs on Acid (featuring Peter Helmis, Joe Reinhart and Nick Tazza formerly of Algernon Cadwallader as well as Nate Dionne of Snowing) recently shared “Flushed,” which is one half of their forthcoming 7” via Asian Man Records. The song’s tumbling melodic momentum makes it a natural stuck-in-your-head rocker that leaves you wanting more. They’ll be headlining Boot & Saddle this evening, which will be their second show in Philly this week, and if you didn’t make it to the First Unitarian Church on Monday or did and just couldn’t get enough of Dogs on Acid, well, here’s your opportunity to check them out in one of the best sounding rooms in Philly. They’ll be joined by The Spirit of the Beehive, who play a range of highs and lows finding an unexpected middle ground between soothing hypnotic astral dream-pop and a denser, shoegazing atmosphere, filled with ever volatile stormy instrumentation that lies in waiting. The group’s musical outlook inhabits darkly clouded sonic terrain. In its intermediate lighter moments, the clouds soften revealing transitions of calm; however, behind that ray of light lies a persistent unforgiving torrential roar. Whether one prefers the calm or the storm, it’s easy to get sucked in. Also along for the ride are relative pop-punk newcomers Quit, who open a night full of intrigue that promises to catapult you toward the weekend. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $8, 21+ – Michael Colavita
Debut Anomie EP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Anomie, the solo venture/moniker of Field Mouse’s Rachel Browne, has released a new self-titled EP via Father/Daughter Records. The album includes contributions from fellow band member Andrew Futral on bass while the virtually omnipresent Eric Slick (Dr. Dog, Lithuania, etc.) tackles percussion. New Music Video: “Scott Get The Van, I’m Moving” – Cayetana
Pop-punk trio Cayetana unleashes some frustration in the official video for “Scott Get The Van, I’m Moving,” which was directed by Adam Peditto. The slow-motion destruction captures the before and after notes suggested through the lyrics, smashing through the positive hope that the past offered. Cayetana is currently on tour with The Sidekicks, which runs through mid-March. (Photo by Ally Newbold)
