"I never did know where I was going." Austin Potter, a.k.a. Tapes & Tubes, channels his inner Leonard Cohen on his latest single, "So Long as I Have You". Gravelly, weathered vocals lay down contemplative prose over the gentle strum of a guitar and hints of feedback. The track is off a new full-length album that Potter is currently working on.

The album was produced by Joe Reihart (Hop Along) of Headroom Philly and features guest appearances from Allison Crutchfield (Swearin’), Sadie Dupuis (Speedy Ortiz), and Joseph D’Agostino (Cymbals Eats Guitars). Take a listen to the record’s fiery first single, "The Mirror" (below), which premiered over at NPR. Frontwoman Rachel Browne describes it as one of the album’s "dissolution-of-relationship" songs. The Writing Squares Opening for NYMPH at Everybody Hits June 5
Hard-churning, covering large expanse, pushing the cosmic pedal to the floor, and hitting an array of spaces, The Writhing Squares‘ sonic shape is an interesting one. Stepping into Everybody Hits this evening, the duo fuses psych and free jazz in a fuzzy, deep-diving union. Finding rhythmic footing while integrating textured openings, it’s a world that’s accessible yet adventurous. Tonight’s show also features the twisting, territorial, out-there jams of Igneous Eyes and the enchanting psych/shoegazing daydream of Myrrias. The joyous, wandering jazz-psych combination of Brooklyn’s NYMPH completes this headie night. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8:30pm, All Ages – Michael Colavita
The Sundrop Music & Arts Festival’s All-Day Block Party at The Fire June 4
The sixth annual Sundrop Music and Arts Festival is centered around the all-day block party happening today outside The Fire with 13 musical acts, 30+ food & craft vendors, a photo booth, and more. I am very excited to see The Original Crooks and Nannies, who was The Deli Philly’s April Record of the Month and the most recent featured artists in our In the Cut interview series. They’ll be pre-empted by the lovely, ethereal electropop sounds of Little Strike, a.k.a. Tamar Dart, and indie rockers The Mellowell. Headlining the outdoor stage will be local area indie stalwarts Illinois, and you’ll also find the bluesy psych rock of power trio Ill Fated Natives helping to welcome the sun drop into the evening festivities. Looks like the forecasted rain will be holding off so come out and enjoy the day! The Sundrop Music and Arts Festival, Leithgow St. & Girard Ave., 12pm – 9:30pm, Free, All Ages – H.M. Kauffman

Residuels & Louie Louie Dual 7″ Release Show at Boot & Saddle June 3
Hot on the heels of a series of West Coast dates supporting the Buzzcocks and with The Deli Philly’s May Record of the Month, Love Songs, still fresh in our minds, Residuels hits the stage this evening at Boot & Saddle to celebrate the release of their new 7" "Ordinary" via Born Losers Records, the trio provides an unwavering, primal, garage-rock rumble that’s unfiltered, hitting unapologetically, grabbing the wheel, and daring you to hold on. However, not one but two 7” will be commemorated on this night. With vinyl copies of “Out in the Streets”/“Miles Around” (issued via Hidden Volume Records) in hand, the all-female quartet of Louie Louie dose out garage rock with a psych-pop twist. Rolling forward in a determined drive, while also exhibiting a smooth soothing side, the band demonstrates compelling control. The heady cruising psych-rock of Weekender completes this billing. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8:30pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Boy Lawyer EP Release Show at KFN June 2
The trio of Boy Lawyer celebrates the release of their new EP Decades Don’t Matter tonight, as a part of a locally linked lineup at Kung Fu Necktie. Compromised of Enrique Gasparini, Steve Fitzpatrick, and Pat Higgins (all of whom have previous ties to the now defunct Dead Tenors), the new project expands upon instrumentally thematic threads, inviting a fresh open-air sound, with crisp, stretching lines, and the boost of backing vocal harmony feeling near with an eye on the far. This evening, they’ll be joined by the genre-boundless gravitational pull of Colins “Bear’” Regisford, a.k.a. The City & I, while the energetic emotive bursts of Spill and the exposed fragile punk rush of Mumblr, whose new record The Never Ending Get Down is due out June 10 via Fleeting Youth Records, cement this show into place. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $6, 21+ – Michael Colavita
New Track: “We’d Never Agree” – P.S. Eliot & Announce New Reissue Compilation and Shows
Before most of the world heard of Waxahatchee or Swearin’, Katie and Allison Crutchfield cut their teeth alongside Will Granger and Katherine Simonetti in pop-punk outfit P.S. Eliot.
