New Track: “Bug Juice” – Bad Canoes

Posted on:

Found on Bad Canoes‘ new EP She’s Too Strong, “Bug Juice” is paced by the casual, creepy combination of keys and percussion. Marissa Paternoster’s (Screaming Females) vocals vary, rolling through and then hitting with brief screams of impassioned intensity. Before going on an indefinite hiatus, the band will head out on a mini-tour that will wrap things up at Goldy’s on Sunday, July 10 with Beth Israel, Turnip King, and Neolibz.

Search for Meaning & Connection w/Spring Onion at Tralfamadore June 15

Posted on:

Catherine Dwyer is at the controls of the bedroom-folk sound of Spring Onion, performing tonight at Tralfamadore. Dwyer reaches back with an easily accessible, casually-strolling instrumental tone. However, while concise lyrical anecdotes appear to offer a set of temporary images, they also speak to a deeper microcosmic, pensive framework. They’re the type of songs that’ll sit with you for a while, ruffling one’s tucked away search for meaning and connection. With a reserved feel of emotive release capable of bursting at the seams at any time, Buster supplies a bare yet volatile vibe. Rochester-based Sad Cactus artist Big Fred provides quick flashes of fragile fury and levity. The Honeymoon Band rounds this lineup into its final shape. New Track: “Give It Time” – Marge

Posted on:

As a steady combination of fuzz and percussion provide a forward thrust, melodic semi-muffled vocals emerge in a new track from Marge, called “Give It Time,” giving way to a surprisingly delicate, inviting hook. While the quartet’s forthcoming album Bruise Easy won’t be released until September 4, the song is one of a trio that’s currently available for streaming, wetting listener’s appetite for the complete record. Marge will be back in town with Littler, Arm Candy, Horse Girls, and Bad Heaven on Sunday, June 26 at LAVA Space.

There Are No Good Goodbyes, the debut album from VoirVoir, will be released via Fleeting Youth Records on July 15. That momentum-riding sense of enthusiasm is encouraging.

New Track: “Kill The Thing You Love” – Lithuania

Posted on:

Lithuania recently dropped a new track called "Kill The Thing You Love". The song was originally written during the Hardcore Friends sessions, but ended up not being a good fit for the debut album. Lame-O Records is releasing it as a stand-alone single, and all the proceeds will go to Women Against Abuse. Grab yourself a copy; it’s definitely a win-win situation.

Philly Beer Week Scavenger Run & Free Music Fest at Dock Street Brewery June 12

Posted on:
Some of you have probably been gettin’ your drink on for Philly Beer Week. And as the curtain begins to pull shut for the ten-day celebration, I look forward to ending things at Dock Street Brewery’s PBW Scavenger Run & Free Music Fest, as I always do every year. Now, I’m not going to lie. I neither have the physical capability or desire to do any running around today, but you can be sure as hell to count me in for some great brews, scrumptious pizzas, and sweet local acts. As usual, it’s an eclectic lineup that feeds off the diversity of the West Philly neighborhood. Ready to throwdown this year for your listening pleasure will be neo-psych sextet Needle Points (who are currently recording its next album with Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken), experimental punks Northern Liberties, the funky sounds of Black Landlord, and L’ananas (featuring members of Grandchildren). It’s really too nice of a day to just stay at home and nurse hangover. A bit of the hair of the dog, a few slices, and an afternoon of good tunes will make the pain all go away. Dock Street Brewery, 50th St. & Baltimore Ave., 2:30pm – 8pm, Free, All Ages – Alexis V.
