Caterpillar Graveyard, the new collection of songs from Ylayali, a.k.a. Francis Lyons (of Free Cake for Every Creature), is now available via Sleeper Records. New Cocordion LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Tv.Ant.Race, the new album from the trio Cocordion, is out now via Tigarita Tapes. A tranquil sea of sound is injected with snippets of noise. The album hovers between a peaceful, pensive state and points of friction. The majority of the LP flows in a smooth cruising nature; however, moments of discord shakeup the system.

New Track: “Glitter” – Goat Mumbles

Posted on:

Goat Mumbles, a.k.a. Robe Grote (of The Districts) recently shared a new single, called “Glitter,” whose proceeds will be donated to the Yellowhammer Fund to support those in need of abortions in Alabama. Bright, bouncy synths and percussion generate a dance-invigorating ecxitement, and coupled with the pleading falsetto, you are instantly transported to a fantastical, 80’s movie dream sequence. It will allow you to step away from the daily grind, and lose yourself for a moment.

Featured on their forthcoming album Drugstore Cowboys, Dominy recently released a new video for “Hey There Big Boy”. Directed by Bob Sweeney, the footage finds its characters running/being dragged through a wooded area. A humorous altercation leaves two disposed of, while the victor leaves with a satchel. The song has a loose, laidback groove, illuminated by the swing of keys and at-ease run of the guitar. You can catch Dominy’s record release celebration at PhilaMOCA on Saturday, June 29, where they’ll be supported by Ali Awan, Barney Cortez, and The Dawn Drapes.

New The Cavemen Split Release Available for Streaming & Download

The Cavemen & TVO recently shared a tour split tape. For their part, The Cavemen create a rumbling, fuzz-around-the-edges aesthetic. There’s a bright yet crunchy tone that gets the head nodding in approval. You just might want to crack open a beer, and leave behind the workday sooner than you planned.

Weekend Warrior – May 17 – 19

Posted on:

Having hosted innumerable historic evenings, a legendary landmark, The Troc, commemorates with its Last Local Band Blowout Sunday. The billing is loaded with the venue’s Philly favorites, which include Pissed Jeans, Stinking Lizaveta, Dandelion, and The Three 4 Tens among others. It’s difficult to imagine how the Center City building may change, but hopefully our musical memories will last forever. You will be missed (well, maybe not the hard-ass security;-).

And speaking of missing, Kyle Gilbride’s Missing Earth is part of a stacked show tomorrow evening at Planet Phitness. There’s a mellow, meandering-through-one’s-thoughts lyricism, with a celestial backdrop that propels ahead, found in the project’s compositions. A meditative, synth-centric sound saturates. The blissful blitz of contagious energy-elevating, emotive-channeling, power-pop, known as Psychic Flowers, will also be on display. Bookended by a pair of Boston outfits in Fucko and Sundog, the lineup is reinforced by the lush, dreamy melodies and tenacious riff combination of Field Mouse. – Michael Colavita

New Track: “Give & Take” – Long Hots

Posted on:

Third Man Records recently released local garage-psych rockers Long Hots‘s new single, “Nickle & Dime,” but its B-side, “Give & Take,” is definitely also worth a listen. A menacing, guitar fire and steadfast percussion radiate a primal, uncontrollable aura. Caught in that cavernous, volcanic push & pull dynamic, the heat has been turned up on this side. You can catch Long Hots, alongside Astute Palate, on Monday, June 24 at Ortlieb’s, as part of Richie Records’s free concert series.
