Track Premiere: “Miss California” – Deadfellow

Posted on:

Mesacalifornia: A California Dream is the forthcoming album from Philly’s own Deadfellow. Reminiscent of Joseph Arthur in tone, its debut single, “Miss California,” steps out from behind the introductory, acoustic strums and longing slide guitar, gathering percussive momentum. Surrounded by the vibrant glow of strings and horns, Hayden Sammak earnestly voices an open letter of affection, while its subject hovers in the distance as a guiding light home. Mesacalifornia: A California Dream is set to drop on June 9, and Deadfellow will be welcoming its arrival that evening at MilkBoy, where he’ll be joined by The Classic Hunt. (Photo by Stef Sexton)

Weekend Warrior, April 21 – 23

Posted on:

Rowdy, restless, riff-charged Dark Web tied us in with their self-titled album (The Deli Philly’s April Record of the Month). This Saturday, their nonstop sewer punk sounds serve as the primer for a Record Store Day lineup at Repo Records that doesn’t quit. The stampeding, snarling, punk anthems of Posers enter the fray, while a fire-breathing, raw-rock fury explodes from the down and dirty exploits of Residuels. The murky, mystic, synth-laced, darkwave of Remote Control will dial you in, and sticky, psych grooves and sweltering exploratory guitar runs set off the closing solo set from Purling Hiss

As the day dwindles down, Eris Temple Arts will host the release show for chamber-folk ensemble On the Water’s new EP Superposition. Whether dashing forward in exuberant rock or swaying in reflective melodies, Dominic resonates. Potentially showcasing material from their forthcoming album Burn Bridges, Burn Pies, the Mad-Hattered, quirky concoctions of OhBree is on the slate, as are the adventurous-eclectic instrumentation merged with captivating songwriting of Dear Rabbit. The duo of Baby & Shylow, which features Aleks Martray (Grandchildren), kicks off the proceedings. – Michael Colavita

New Music Video: “One Shot” – Rockers Galore

Posted on:

For the past five years, Blayer Point-du-jour and the Rockers Galore have journeyed back and forth between Philadelphia and the Dominican Republic to hone and craft their new material in preparation for their sophomore full-length album, Cultivation. In a lot of ways, the new music video for their latest single, “One Shot,” is the perfect montage of the journey that led up to the album. While the footage predominately features the band jamming in one of the many studios that Cultivation was developed in (complete with dancing with members from Peek-A-Boo Revue), it segues to various backdrops of the band members journeying through Philly’s waterfront and tropical destinations. Add it all up, and it plays out to be a joyous prelude to tomorrow night’s album release celebration at MilkBoy.

New Night Sins LP Available for Streaming

Posted on:

Night Sins will be releasing a new album, entitled Dancing Chrome, on May 19 via Funeral Party, but you can stream the release in its entirety over at Post-Punk. Kyle Kimball (Nothing) produces dire, danceable darkwave. Sinister baritone vocals bellow as percussion and synth ominously illuminate the ground below one’s feet. It’s dangerously designed to negotiate moving a gathering to the dance floor.

New Eric Slick Album Available for Streaming

Palisades, the debut solo album from Eric Slick (Dr. Dog, Lithuania), officially comes out tomorrow via Egghunt Records. However, it is currently available for streaming via Consequence of Sound. In surrounding himself and creating an array of instrumental depths, he explores personal pensiveness through a peacefully evolving lens. While there are dreary moments, an optimism persists. Slick is currently in the midst of tour dates supporting Sinkane.

New Music Video: “Feline” – Vita and the Woolf

Posted on:

What begins as a somewhat creepy visit through a car wash morphs into a colorful, psychedelic dream in Vita and the Woolf’s video for “Feline”. Directed by Albert Sala, the footage that was shot in Barcelona finds Jennifer Pague behind the wheel amid stormy conditions as the suspenseful electro-beats link her with her consuming, soulful power; it’s a heady ride. The song is featured on the the group’s forthcoming album, Tunnels, scheduled for release June 16. Vita and the Woolf are slated to appear with Deadfellow and PROM tomorrow night at Ortlieb’s.

New Dirty Dollhouse LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Vinyl Child, the recently released album from Dirty Dollhouse, a.k.a. Chelsea Mitchell, captures a soulful, earnest beauty. Produced by The Lawsuits‘ Brian Dale Allen Strouse, the album sways gently in moments of mind-wandering, glistening folk, and then ramps up in momentum, escalating to a harmony-rich, countrified stomp. Transported by purposeful but not pushy instrumentation, spoken-mind lyricism leads the way. The Maas Building will host Dirty Dollhouse’s record release show this Friday, April 21, which also includes Former Belle and Caroline Reese. (Photo by Kristina Beese)

Nick Kulp (Remote Control, ex-Creepoid/Far-Out Fangtooth), who records and performs under the moniker Lunacy, just shared a new music video for the single, "Nail in the Wire," which premiered earlier this morning at CVLT Nation. Its visuals provide "a depiction of the world being destroyed by natural causes from the earth & the static represents purgatory and the split or ‘nail’ between dimensions." The footage was shot and edited by Joe Kusy and Conor Clasen, and it is the closing track on Lunacy’s forthcoming EP Beneath The Fold, which will be available on cassette and in digital format on May 26 via Funeral Party.

Gloomy melodies thrust forward with steel-cutting guitar and deep-tunneling backend, HEX, the new EP from Psychic Teens, immediately perks one’s ears.
