New Track: “Sooo Bad” – Sad13

Posted on:

Adult Swim is currently in the midst of its year-long singles series, and just released its fourth track from the compilation. "Sooo Bad" is the latest offering from Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis, a.k.a. Sad13. The song was tracked during a late-night session in her mother’s kitchen. Overdubs and mixing were handled by by the band’s touring sound engineer Danielle DePalma at Seaside Lounge, with mastering by Chad Clark (of Beauty Pill/Smart Went Crazy). It was also the first time Sad13 live drummer Zoë Brecher appears on a recording. (Photo by Shervin Lainez)

New Music Video: “Pianos, Heavy Instrument”/”Snow on the Moon” – The Spirit of the Beehive

Posted on:

Together with visual artists/filmmaker/photographer Craig Scheihing, psych outfit The Spirit of the Beehive has provided us with a woozy documentation of their adventures on the road, soundtracked by "Pianos, Heavy Instrument" and "Snow on the Moon," songs sequentially found on band’s latest LP Pleasure Suck (Tiny Engines). The former goes along with the band members on a scenic, hillside hike, before melding into the latter, where a lazy, sun-kissed day at the beach is eventually interrupted by the perpetual motion of life on the road. The Spirt of the Beehiove will be continuing their heavy 2017 touring schedule with a nearly month-long stint opening for The Districts this summer, but before they leave home, you can catch the guys and gal this evening at Spruce Street Harbor Park’s Waterfront Sessions with Permanent Body. New Midwestern Exposure LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Midwestern Exposure follows up its Grizzly Bear EP (released earlier this year in March) with a new full-length album, entitled The West. The trio splices elements of haunting country-blues with an ominous bite, stirring up the surroundings; however, despite those sinister sounds, fresh, folk-oriented points of optimism persist as well. They’ll be setting up shop at Ortlieb’s on Wednesday, August 9, for a billing with the Dirty Soap Blues Band and King Kong and the Bleeding Hearts.

New Track: “Lost” – Tiny Hueman

Posted on:

The tandem of Dustin Miller and Richie Hollahan, a.k.a. Tiny Hueman, will release their forthcoming EP Shallow on June 16. Its latest single, “Lost,” develops from a somewhat funky groove, before reaching heavier magnitudes. Reserved but roaring vocals ride a wave of riffs, pushing through the pain. The duo is scheduled to open for Edenspore and Vessna Scheff on Friday, July 7 at The Barbary.

New Past Life EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Past Life recently dropped their new EP Triple Nothing. With emotive exuberance and riff-detonating charges, the record is an infectious release of energy. Converting internal quandaries into an externally hook-anchored outpouring, the band builds pressure before spilling over into anthem-aspiring conclusions. The quintet is slated to appear as part of an upcoming lineup that also includes Salfi, Nox, Zigtebra, and Chubby Bunny, on Monday, June 19 at The Overlook Hotel.

New Track: “Parasitic” – Enamel

Posted on:

Shot out of a cannon, “Parasitic,” a new song from hardcore quintet Enamel, rips and rumbles with an immediate, attacking velocity. While inherently aggressive and agitated, the band maintains composure, unleashing the fury on a user characterized as “social-climbing scum”. The track is featured on Enamel’s forthcoming cassette, Complete The Lie.

New Palm EP Available for Streaming

Posted on:

Ahead of its official release this Friday, June 16 via Carpark Records, Shadow Expert, the new EP from Palm, is available to stream in its entirety below. Juxtaposing the relative calm of the vocals with the directional cuts of experimental instrumentation, the quartet creates a dueling but symbiotic relationship. Contrasting those levitating lyrics with lightning-like jolts, Palm doesn’t sit still for too long in a sound akin to Dirty Projectors, Battles, or locals Banned Books. You can catch them at PhilaMOCA on Saturday, June 24, with Palberta and Suffer Dragon. (Photo by Brian Garbrecht)

New Track: “Building The Ark” – Slaughter Beach, Dog

Posted on:

Though Modern Baseball is currently on an indefinite hiatus, Jake Ewald (thankfully) continues to record and release his solo efforts under the moniker Slaughter Beach, Dog, with assistance from MoBo bassist Ian Farmer. Ewald will be dropping a new four-song EP Motorcycle.jpg on July 14 via Lame-O Records. You can take a listen to the album’s lead single, "Building The Ark," below. He also has plans for a full-length release later this year, which is definitely more good news for die-hard MoBo fans. Slaughter Beach, Dog will be headlining Johnny Brenda’s on Thursday, August 17, with support from Lame-O labelmate Shannon Moser. (Photo by Jess Flynn)

Weekend Warrior, June 9 – 11

Posted on:

Grimace Federation celebrates the launch of their latest intergalactic musical vessel, Auroville, with a live performance this evening at Underground Arts. Honing in high-speed precision, the band cruises while pushing the envelope. Bombarding beats, resulting from the steady thrust of keys and percussion, develop in masterful, woven threads of sonic discovery. Those dynamic points of intersection, when the luminous possibilities of the unknown are weighed against the dangers that potentially lie in one’s path, create suspenseful peaks of intrigue. Meanwhile, the warp-speed, electro-jazz, experimenting engine maintains its varied, but never off course, trajectory. Tonight, they lay the groundwork for the funky, electro-dance assemblage of !!! (Chk Chk Chk), who are in town supporting their new album Shake the Shudder. – Michael Colavita

New My Home is the Sea EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

The combination of Natalie Wimberg and Marc Neibauer, a.k.a. My Home is the Sea, just released its self-titled EP. Enticing, ethereal vocals hover over the top of tranquil, electro-pop instrumentation, transitioning from spacious points of serenity, contrasted by congested eerie passages. They’ll be welcoming the new release tomorrow evening at Ortlieb’s, on a billing that also includes Church Girls, Jesse Gimbel, and Danafox.
