Haunting new dream folk project Panteon drops video for “White Jaguar”

Posted on:

Panteon (aka Yvonne Ambree) writes soft, haunting indie folk tunes that  linger long after the music stops. Her new EP, Travel Log 1, (out January 19th) documents her world travels through music. In anticipation of the release, the Brooklyn-based artist has dropped a video for single "White Jaguar." The video showcases dream-like visuals that compliment the haziness of Panteon’s music, and keeping in theme with the EP, the song was developed after a visit to Columbia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta–offering an impressionistic view of the indigenous KOGI peoples. Stream White Jaguar below, and check out Panteon at Rockwood Music Hall 1/28.-Olivia Sisinni

ZEBEDEE, the project of Australian transplant Zebedee Row, serves up crunchy, saxed-up garage rock that seems to dangerously flirt with the edge of madness. Posted on:

We’ve covered Brooklyn-based garage/psych quartet, Stuyedeyed, before on the Deli, but the band keeps churning out new music to keep us excited. Their latest? A track called "Believer" off a recent split with fellow Brooklynites Birds. The song features the band’s signature brand of bluesy psych rock, with vocals that seems to edge closer and closer to an inevitable freakout. The accompanying video is a visual treat–a kaleidoscopic display that manages to be fun instead of tropey, with it’s light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek approach. Brooklyn-based art pop quartet, Milan to Minsk, is gearing up to release their latest EP, Welcome to Hitler (out 12/1, EP release on 12.06 at Trans-Pecos), but for fans interested in getting a glimpse of what’s to come, the Deli is excited to premiere the band’s new video for the album’s title track. As the title may have you guess, the album offers a timely observation on what forces elevate people in different positions of power, however the new video is unexpectedly entertaining in a fun way, and its bright colors and whimsical feel reads like a trippy Wes Anderson flick. With smooth lounge-style vocals, whirling instrumentals and a mind-melding saxophone solo, "Welcome to Hitler," is a strange and shimmering track, and easily our latest earworm. Pollens drop new EP “Mister Manufacture” at Secret Project Robot on 11.16

Posted on:

Pollen can be invasive, and (as those with allergies know) it’s basically everywhere; but from out of the powdery, sneeze-inducing substance springs life. In a weird way, this almost parallels the overall vibe of NYC. It’s a cramped, noisy place infested with people and ideas, but every so often the seemingly aimless find their mark and creativity blossoms. It makes sense then that eccentric avant-pop act, Pollens, would call NYC their home. The band, who, to take a quote from their bio, specializes in " ecstatic readings of boring lists," takes a unique approach to songwriting that seems almost tailor-made for the Buzzfeed generation. But don’t let that fool you: though the band claims to want their music to be – to steal another quote – "dumb and immediate," their latest release, Mister Manufacture, packs a lot of heart into its celebration and dissection of the 2017 human condition, and the mundanity of modernity. With a decent amount of noise and a flair for the experimental, the album manages to be surprisingly catchy and well worth checking out, so be sure to stream Pollens below. The release party is scheduled for November 16th at Secret Project Robot. – Olivia Sisinni

A Shadow of Jaguar to drop new LP, RAW

Posted on:

A Shadow of Jaguar plays hazy, 70s-inspired rock n roll sans pomp and/or circumstance. The Brooklyn-based-via-Colorado duo are gearing up to release their first ever LP, RAW, and if single "Veruca Bath Salts" is anything to judge by, the album’s title is more than apt. Blending bare-knuckle and gritty rock with tongue-in-cheek lyricism and old-school cool, A Shadow of a Jaguar is one feline-themed band you’re going to want to pounce on. The 94 Knicks makes the classic type of garagey indie rock that’s at once uplifting and cathartic. The band writes surprisingly poignant lyrics, with songs that feel as if they could have been lifted from the scribbles of your personal journal, however their chunky guitars, command of dynamics, and  lo-fi, fuzzy goodness keep their tunes upbeat and head-bop worthy. Catch the band live at Elsewhere (the new venue by NYC promoters PopGun Presents) on November 6th and, in the meantime, stream their single Street Fighter below.-Olivia Sisinni

Porches unveils video for “Find Me” off upcoming album

Posted on:

After much anticipation, NYC-based Porches, the synth-pop project of Aaron Maine has recently announced that January 2018 will mark the arrival of a new LP. The record titled The House, comes on the heels of 2016’s Pool and was the result of an 18-month stretch of intermittent recording. Says Maine, "The House is a diary. The House began immediately with a sense of urgency. A different kind of urgency than I had experienced previously when writing songs. I wasn’t sure exactly what this meant while it was happening, but it felt necessary to embrace it." That being said, January feels like a long time away, so what’s a rabid Porches fan to do? Luckily Maine has been kind enough to drop a few hints as to what the 14-track album will sound like, the latest being his new video for "Find Me," an aloof track that touches on isolation. Check it out streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni
