The Astrochimps have recently released 2 new songs, downloadable on NoiseTrade. The band is described as ‘energetic music for the soul’ and it really is. Their song ‘Rooftop Temptations’ is upbeat and catchy,with echoes of Vampire Weekend and The Walkmen. The band has been doing tons of things recently besides with the release of the two new songs, like putting out a music video for their  "I’ll Tell You Tomorrow" in February. Their new songs are good for the body and soul, so go check them out. -Amanda Ayedelott

 Split Wigs is an unholy mashup of member from Dogtooth, Dirty  Dreams and Prince Coyote and the Dog Men.  Since they are in the throes of their infant stage, there’s not to much to know about them aside from their capability of slinging some fierce noise.  Their debut EP, "Reservior Park" draws influence from across the punk spectrum, hitting shades of The Cramps, Wire, GBH and Titus Andronicus in a 5-song span. Opening track "Body Double, Blood Trouble" should get you good and surly this Wednesday afternoon.   They’ve most recently rocked Boro Fondo in April, and a cassette release show is booked for June 7th at The End with Road Block, Of Archers and Couched.  -Terra James-Jura

 Leave it to The Grayces to soothe that little heartbreak that comes with the first of every month.  Sunday was the strategic release date of their video for "Drop in a Bucket," proving that a rock and roll kick to the head will always be an excellent distraction from the chronic financial loss of living in your hovel.  With the video comes the announcement of their Nashville pre-release show at The Basement on June 28th.  This will be your opportunity to get your mitts on their album "Westing" before its release in October.  Take our word for it, you want your mitts on The Grayces. -Terra James-Jura

 Congratulations to Creature Comfort for winning our Artist of the Month poll.  The quartet put out their album "Fox Tales" last spring, and followed up with a masterful video for earworm "All My Friends," (you may remember us writing about it last month.) Their ambient take on indie rock riffs a little on early Modest Mouse ramblings, resulting in a distinct and entirely addictive sound strong enouth to carry them to victory in our latest poll (guidance from drummer Taylor Cole, who’s other project Chalaxy won our poll earlier this year, likely didn’t hurt either!) "Karma’s Gonna Get You" is should get you pumped for Creature Comfort’s show at fooBar tonight at 8pm.  Go down and check them out, then be sure to buy them a beer. -Terra James-Jura

Judson McKinney has the distinction of playing the last show in a series presented by Atomic Sweater Records at The Church this Friday.  The songwriter manages to weave together several disparate elements into his latest single, "Moonpie," released this April. From the synth to the easy listening vibe of the guitar to sampling that took my brain right to Passion Pit’s "Sleepyhead," he strikes a balance between creating a whimsical experience without coming across as too silly or twee.  The Church will provide an appropriately surreal compliment to McKinney’s dreamy bent on alt-folk, and this will be your last chance to catch a show at this location.  Friday’s show will start at 9pm, cover is $7, and the address is 1703 Jo Johnston Ave, Nashville, TN 37203. -Terra James-Jura

Tipper Whore, Nashville’s answer to the B-52’s (with more glitter and less protection) is having their album release party for their debut LP “Just the Tip.” The sextet is taking over The Stone Fox on Friday, May 30th with Roman Polanski’s baby and Ben Spink’s Supermelt to mark the occasion, and there is just enough time to shop for the perfect wig for the occassion. Kim Logan burned sage on stage last night at The Basement.  "Midnight is my birthday," she said, "and I’m clearing the air." Logan alluded to a 22nd year rife with the tribulations of young adulthood, then proceeded to ring in her 23rd with a visicious set of Southern-flavored blues.  While most any gal with pipes and hotpants can put on a decent show, few can tie vintage rock with modern views through sharp lyrics like: "I think I love you but I don’t know if I should/ there’s already one of me in the neighborhood." Consider this new single’s gritty leveling-of-the-playing-field vibe a reverse birthday present from Logan, and be sure to give her 23 punches at the East Side Hootenany on May 31st, where she performs with bree, Them Vibes, and Lauren Farrah. -Terra James-Jura

Tonight Ben Cameron is among the lineup at The Stone Fox, opening for Swear and Shake and Brave Baby. He describes himself as “yacht rock meets folk rock,” which is something we might quickly pass along to our aunts back in the midwest suburbs, if it weren’t for this track, “I Believe.” The Deli Nashville, as it turns out, might have a secret affinity for white guys singing gospel with conviction. Feel free to compare and contrast this track with older material like “Eloise,” and if his versatility appeals to you, head down to the Stone Fox tonight to check him out! -Terra James-Jura

Maybe the release of this single from Josehpine and the Wildront flew under our radar, but we’re catching it this go-round thanks to a gentle Facebook reminder from Ms. Moore herself. “Sovereign” features a low guitar line that sounds as though it comes out of the mist, supported by splashy drums and spectral background vocals. Moore plays with dynamics a little, going softer just when the listener is expecting things to get loud. The now foursome is recording their new EP, “Strange Gold.” You can catch them playing at The Boro this Saturday with Bree and Stagolee. -Terra James-Jura
