Eight soulful musicians comprise ELEL, the newest band to hit Nashville. Spearheaded by Ben Elkins, they have just come off the euphoria of Bonnaroo to release their first single “40 Watt”. Magnetizing from its first few seconds and amped up beats, the electric indie pop is anthemic. It emits good vibes and enthusiasm for long summer days. ELEL’s primary influences include Toro y Moi and Beach House, brought to Ben’s attention by his wife Eliska, whose name in turn influenced the band name. After listening to “40 Watt”, you won’t be able to wait until their debut project, Geode. While the project was slated to be released this summer, the date has been pushed back to the beginning of 2015, due to an opportunity to, according to Elkins, "-do it right." -Sammie Spector
Congratulations to Oh! Grandpa, Our New Artist of the Month!
Congratulations to Oh! Grandpa, our new artist of the month! While Murfreesboro might conjure up associations with house shows and Glossary’s skeleton friend, it’s time to add Oh! Grandpa’s punchy, piano-driven noise to the list. The trio draws influence from funk, rock, and blues with a very punk rock sensibility of pleasing their own aesthetics before anything else. Luckily, what Oh! Grandpa likes is right in line with what Deli readers like; it was an easy win for the band (that may or may not have anything to do with how fun it is to say their name.) If you have any lingering doubt that Oh! Grandpa can jam the F out, check out the twists and turns in "Stubborn Gatekeeper" from their EP "OG." -Terra James-Jura

Bear in the Campsite, “Hotel Infinity”
I know the signifigance of Hotel Infinity; it was the only hotel near Joshua Tree, CA where, in 1970, the Beatles, burnt out tripping hard on peyote, decided to move permanently to the States and reinvent themselves as a rock country band. This isn’t true, but it IS the title of the most recent EP of Bear in the Campsite. And while the group presents as a solid, alt-leaning garage band, there are moments in the EP that are like flashes of an alternate universe. The way guitar riff opens "Obsession" sounds a little like the Fab Four retracing Gram Parson’s footsteps, and "Nothing at All" has a few sharp veers towards 60’s pop. The band is heading into Cherrybox Studios at the end of this month to lay down some new tunes, but not before a few shows. The first of which will be at fooBar this Friday, with And the Giraffe and Moe’s Anthill, followed by a show at Springwater this Saturday. Check out their Facebook for updates on their new music, which may or may not pay homage to the Beatle’s Hell’s Angels years. -Terra James-Jura
Lambchop Playing TWO Shows at The Basement 7.15
This Wednesday, infamous and prolific country rockers Lambchop with be performing their seminal 2000’s release "Nixon" at The Basement. They will, in fact, be playing it twice, as two shows (one at 7pm, the other at 9pm.) The evening is dedicated not only to the rare chance to see the group perform the album that essentially brought Lambchop an international awareness, but also to raise funds for the Mary Mancini for State Senate campaign (Mancini has been married to frontman Kurt Wagner for almost two decades.) Lauded as "America’s Most F*cked-Up Country Band," (Exhibit A: the beautifully weird track "Up With People, included below) and with no less than 14 titles in their discography, a $25 cover is a bargain. -Terra James-Jura

Moseley Rocks Out Splashville 7.6
There was a water slide, pools, drinks, fun, and bands at Splashville on July 6th. To say fun is an understatement. It was a return to the way summer felt as a child: exciting, hot, and wet! If there was a roof, Moseley, a trio of bad-ass rocker ladies, would have torn it off. The three got on the stage set outside of The Crying Wolf and people were immediately moved and captivated. The ladies have a great vibe, look, and attitude and their music is amazing to boot. Check them out, especially the track “Faithful.” They really are outstanding. –Amanda Aydelott
MantraMantraMantra, “World on Fire”
While Mantra Mantra Mantra may be out of commission for the rest of the summer as guitarist Greg Dorris heads out on tour with another project, they left us with this single as a holdover. "World on Fire" has enough depth to fortify us through at least some of the dog days. It pushes into experimental electronica territory with an aesthetic anchor (read as: they get a little weird but keep it right pretty.) There’s plenty to chew on in the span of five minutes; the track is a series of ascents and lulls, with the intensity backing off a little only to make the next wave more powerful, and the saxophone jamming out for the whole thing keeps a thread of consistency while amplifiying the awesomeness. Keep an eye out for their next wave of shows here, and dig into the rest of their releases here. -Terra James-Jura
I’m an Island, “Crown Jewel Pt. 2”
I’m an Island just released their debut EP "Crown Jewel" July 1st. The collected works of mastermind J. Gardner are absolutely season-appropriate; much of the lazy guitar across these 4 songs is a pretty good approximation of how wobbly and distorted the boom box on the dock sounds as you’re surfacing from a running dive off of it. Especially endearing is "Crown Jewel Pt. 2." The pendulum swings a little more towards Vampire Weekend than Will Oldham on this track, but both elements remain present, as they do for the duration of the EP. Gardner has hit upon a distinct vibe, and it is going to be a pleasure to hear more from I’m an Island (especially in the dead of winter.) Check out the whole EP here. -Terra James-Jura

The Spectacular Summer Spectacle at Exit/In 7.3
The Spectacular Summer Spectacle is happening in Nashville on Fourth of July Eve, or, if you want to be normal about it, July 3rd. As much of a toungue-twister it is to say, it will be a night of easy listening and a good time. The bands playing are The Heavy Heavy Hearts, Guthrie Brown and the Family Tree, Hot Mess Loves You, and 2013 Deli Nashville Reader’s Choice winners The Daily Howl. We had a hard time picking out a track that says "fireworks" until we heard "Lock Down a Lover" by The Heavy Heavy Hearts. This night of Nashville fun will be at the Exit/In this Thursday at 8pm. Cover is 5 dollars and there will be a door prize to the biggest beach bum. So, of course, wear your beach clothes out! –Amanda Aydelott
Congratulations to The By Gods, Our New Artist of the Month!
Congratulations to The By Gods for winning our latest Artist of the Month poll! Between this victory and the June release of their debut album, "I Don’t Care Who Believes Me…" this is shaping up to be the summer of The By Gods. Their next undertaking for the hot months (besides eating a hunk of cheese like an apple) is a short jaunt to the West Coast in August to throw some feedback around. The duo of Tye Hammond and George Pauley crank out tunes that carry the same heavy crunch of the early 90’s alternative music, which should appeal to fans of Jawbreaker and Dinosaur Jr., as well as anyone who appreciates a little craftsmanship in their rock’n’roll. There’s a streak of stoner ennui to opening track, "Hometown," and the album offers all manner of familiar yet long-lost sounds that make one pause and think "Wait, didn’t I skate to this when I was 14?" The Deli Nashville highly recommends checking it out in its entirety on their bandcamp page: http://thebygods.bandcamp.com/and buying them a beer the next time you see them out. -Terra James-Jura
