Tall Horse releases intriguing double single “Dogwater/Bedwetter”

Posted on:

Tall Horse offers a curious blend of country and alternative rock to start your week right. The band’s leading guitar riffs and bright basslines distort to contrast the distinctive vocals outpouring with emotion. The Portland, Maine band’s new double single "Dogwater/Bedwetter" is Red Hot Chili Peppers’ soft side meets Kings of Leon for an unconventional sound born in New England. The rhythms are steady, the atmosphere easy-going, the breakdowns heartfelt: the music is as emotionally honest as it gets. The group’s latest effort should jolt them back into the New England music scene, and we are intrigued. The double single is streaming below to cure your Monday blues. – Rene Cobar

Perspective, a lovely hand to hold previews new record with explosive single

Posted on:

Nashua, New Hampshire’s Perspective, a lovely hand to hold has us excited for the release of its full-length record Lousy on September 27th. "Subject to Change" is the second single off the album and it presents a deceptively super-charged preview heavy on distortion, just right on the dynamics, and fierce as hell. The song’s combination of indie and math-rock is doused with grunge fuel, and it sure explodes in the culminating breakdowns. The band is keeping the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll alive and very well, with sick drum fills and no reservations. Fresh off a performance at ONCE in Somerville expect some autumn dates after the record’s release. We are streaming "Subject to Change" for you below. – Rene Cobar

Chelsey Meyer releases deeply-layered single “Your Mind Amazes Me (Shots!)”

Posted on:

We are keeping with today’s indie-pop theme by presenting to you the music of Boston’s Chelsey Meyer. The singer-songwriter’s voice is a quick shot of endorphins to the brain, a light to dissipate the gloomiest of thoughts. Despite having a tinge of DIY to it, Chelsey’s latest single “Your Mind Amazes Me (Shots!)” has a sophistication to it that is undeniable. The song’s chipper vocal inflections and grandiose instrumentation are almost theatrical in delivery: piano leads, a warm bassline, and Meyer’s vocal range tell a great story in full performance. The track is a mass collaboration that Chelsey is grateful for; they should all be proud for they have delivered New England a solid tune to forget the world for a while. Amanda Palmer debuts provocative music video for “Drowning in the Sound”

Posted on:

Boston’s Amanda Palmer released There Will Be No Intermission back in March, of the twenty tracks on the record “Drowning in the Sound” always stood above them all. The sharp orchestral changes led by disjointed piano strains provide the canvas for Palmer to paint inconvenient portraits of society with her lyrics. Amanda tackles tough subjects like abortion, climate change, and today’s political whirlwind of division with both sophistication and a much-needed crudeness. The music video for the single is a dance movement spectacle of the turmoil within. Beautifully orchestrated by Coco Karol and directed by Michael Pope, the “Drowning in the Sound” music video is an elegant portrayal of inner turbulence in the face of difficult and personal decisions. The video begs to be viewed and felt with the same intensity it was created; it is art the way art should always be: provocative. Fish House releases escapist new single, plays Lilypad Inman 08.10

Posted on:

A little groovy, a little surfy, and a lot of fun is “Better for It” the latest single from Boston’s Fish House. The talented trio does not lack direction: each note in the new track is carefully placed to stimulate the senses, create images of a peaceful world desired. The band’s indie rock is polished with elements of R&B, creating its appeal. From the smooth vocal delivery to the deep bass groove and shimmering piano notes that surround it, the single is a sonic rope leading to escape. Indie rock’s progression over the last few years has leaned toward the harsh electronic sounds of Ty Segall and Des Rocs, but it could be argued what Fish House offers for the genre is far more sensitive and sound. The band is bringing its evocative sounds to Lilypad Inman in Cambridge on August 10th. We are streaming the new single for you below. – Rene Cobar

Ceschi digs deep in new record, Middle East performance set for 09.01

New Haven’s Ceschi Ramos challenges listeners to enter his world of inconvenient truths and dark social tales. In his brand new record Sans Soleil, Ceschi makes use of a full sonic arsenal: from alternative hip-hop verses that sting with precision to folk eulogies fit for gatherings by the porch light, it all delivers somber realities. Ceschi and his array of collaborators hold nothing back as they comment on today’s political tensions, state of the media, inner-city conditions, and how identity gets muddled in it all. Take a track like “Incesticide (feat. Open Mike Eagle, P.O.S, Onry Ozzborn, Factor Chandelier, Mo Niklz)” which showcases Ceschi and his collaborators alternating spitfire verses to the might of a percussive electronic beat, the back and forth recalling the glory of ‘80s hip-hop groups. “Christ on a Cross” by comparison is a heartfelt track that uses an acoustic guitar chord progression to tell an urban tale of religious ambiguity, the tragedy of faith exposed. The stories found in Sans Soleil hit hard, the way music should. Catch Ceschi Ramos at Middle East in Cambridge on September 1st. We are streaming “Yoni’s Electrocardiographs (feat.
